Older brick house: damp corners + white efflorescence after rain

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice on a moisture issue in an older home.

The house is over 40 years old and built with brick. After periods of heavy rain, the interior corners of a couple of rooms become damp, and I start seeing white powdery staining/efflorescence on the wall surface. It seems to dry out later, but it keeps coming back whenever we get sustained rain.

I’m trying to figure out the most likely cause and the best way to diagnose it properly before I start repairs. What should I check first (exterior drainage, gutters/downspouts, grading, weep holes, flashing, cracks, etc.)? And what are the most reliable fixes for this kind of recurring corner moisture in an older brick home?
