Floor Refinish Brazilian Cherry Big Disappointments

last modified: 29 days ago

The main level of our home has Brazilian cherry needed refinishing due to areas in the kitchen that had worn due to high traffic. Two huge issues I need help with as the refinishers are at a loss. Hoping some pros can weigh in. They used 4 layers of oil-based poly. The splotches I'm told are oil in the wood reacting with the finishing, "it can happen". We've had these floors redone 10 years ago and this didn't happen then. There are at least 16 areas (noted by green tape) of this issue throughout the floor in all the different rooms. It does seem to be limited to a board and doesn't jump boards. Anyone know how to correct this? Refinishers came back today to try to fix it, they did a sand by hand and a coat of poly and it came right back. (See photo with masking tape box) The second issue is the uneven mop lines. How can that be remedied. I have more trust that they can buff the entire floor and do a final coat again to fix the uneven mop lines but little faith in the splotchiness issue. Please help...
