How do I restore my Zoeller Backup Sump Pump System?

I have a Model 585 Aquanot II Battery Backup Pedestal Sump Pump System w/ Electronic Charger. It was installed in the spring of 2025. The system uses a Zoeller 10-1450 - Aquanot 12V Deep Cycle 100AH AGM Battery which was purchased and connected in the Fall of 2025.

Today (Feb 22, 2026) I noticed the charger was not plugged in. I expect I neglected to plug it in when I connected the battery. The yellow LED was on but not the red or green. I plugged in the charger, all three lights went on and the battery began to charge. Charger got hot to the touch and there was an unpleasant smell, so I unplugged it.

What should I do now?

Was this self installed iinstalled or installenstalled by a contractor?

This sounds like a defective battery, charger or wiring. It would appear to be a potential warranty issue. If it was installed by a contractor, notify them.

If everything looks normal, you might want to test the battery voltage with a multimeter. If the battery is very low or not holding voltage, it could be the issue. Otherwise, the charger itself may have a problem. At that point, contacting Zoeller support or checking the warranty would probably be the safest next step.
