Keyed lever handle for front door entry

last month

We do not need a deadbolt on our front door. We do not live in a high crime area. Practically no crime. And anyone who wanted to get in that badly could go around the back and break a window. That said, we are putting in a 42inch front door with three glass panes. As far as aesthetics go, and yes, I know preferences will vary, what do you think about just a lever handle as opposed to a more substantial traditional entry handle in which you press with your thumb to open the door. Not looking for the pull bar as I understand those lock every time you close it and we are not interested in that.

I would still put a proper front door lock on your home. Personally ally I think a lever alone would look out of place. An entry set looks expected and put together on a front door. We lock ours at night but otherwise leave it. That said I think the front door looks finished with the whole lock set and handle as is. Of course if someone wants to break in lots of ways to do it that don’t include Tue front door, as it is in most homes.

Agree. The front door sets the whole tone for the exterior of the house. Why people cheap out here befuddles me (general comment -- not aimed at you).

Even if you never engage the deadbolt, it just looks better to have a complete lock set. I can't say as though I've ever seen a singular lever handle on a front door, but mentally visualizing it, it doesn't look quite right -- to me levers belong on the interior. I did have swing-in patio doors at my other house that had levers on the exterior, but that those were not front entry doors. There's got to be some style of lockset out there that you would like.

Mine does not. If I don't engage the deadbolt the door isn't locked. It was a custom door with handles installed at the time of door build, and I can't tell you what the brand it because the door company put it on for me. The deadbolt is the only lock on the door so like I said, if I don't engage the bolt the doors isn't locked:

    (I do need a nicer doorbell don't I LOL!)

I have a lever handle on my door but it has a backplate so it feels a little beefier. I also have a keypad deadbolt.

yes, a backplate might do the trick…

I do like the look of those! we will live in a town of under 200 people. We only lock doors when we go somewhere overnight.

My sister's home was broken into by some construction workers who came to her town for the day to do some work. They did it on their lunch hour. No tools, just the foot on the door.

We have a similar version of what Beverly posted. It doesn’t need to be clunky

Emtek makes some of the prettiest and sturdiest door handles.
Our front door. The outside and inside are slightly different.

All inside doors are lever handles. I find them to be more convenient when I have a load of laundry and can barely grab any handle.

It seems Beverly has shown a simple keyed lever is that what you mean? Honestly no home is bullet proof or intruder proof .
