dark slate tiles with dark lockers in mud room

last month

I picked out a beautiful slate floor and Sherwood Williams smokey blue lockers/cabinets for my mud room. I’m scared with no natural light it might be too dark. Any thoughts?
-Walls will be SW Shoji white
The first photos are of the tile I picked out.
Then I looked at possible paint colors and liked the blue
The cabinets come in Smoky Blue, so that’s what I picked out as the closest match.
I had AI make a mock up for the laundry room with the colors I chose and I’m just scared it might read too dark.

I'd go with a lighter color of slate. It's going to look heavy IMO with the dark slate and dark blue cabinets, plus you've got all this dark then bam! white walls, it's a bit visually jarring. Try a light grey slate instead.

ETA: You need a better counter choice for the cabinets -- that travertine-ish color doesn't look good with the blue cabinets or the slate, its too warm in tone (not sure if that's the counter you chose or just something AI stuck in)

Thank you! I agree. I love these inspo pictures, that’s what i was trying to capture. the only thing I’ve definitely picked out is the cabinet colors: SW smoky blue. I can change the walls, right now it matches the kitchen cabinets which are in the adjacent room. i can change the tile but am still trying to make it work. the counter top is taj quartz so it’s not as orangey as AI made it.

I’m also working on a nearby powder room, trying to use the same colors and materials. this is what I have so far for this room. It’s small, 3’4” by 5’11”

But I agree, there is something that isn’t quite right. I probably could change the cabinet colors (I’ve picked it out but it hasn’t been ordered yet). to something lighter? this was the color pallet I was using. the floors and trim in the whole house including the doors in the mud room and the adjacent kitchen floors are cherry, that’s why that’s in there

Does it snow or sleet where you live? If there is road salt or Ice Melt on the streets and sidewalks, it wil show up in a bad way on a dark floor.

I live in Montana so yes and yes but no salt is used here. but this room will see a lot of snow and sludge. i will say tha snow gear will come off in the garage—-there’s not enough room in this mud room for all that.

The powder room works because the cabinet is small, and the color isn't as dark as the laundry cabinets you've picked, it's more of an accent piece rather than the main show.

If you like the blue cabinets then go with the blue cabinets. Laundry rooms can be different to the rest of the house, as long as the general vibe or color palette is similar it's fine. But don't make it an oppressive cave with dark cabs and very dark floor. Mid-tone or light grey is going to be a much better choice.

I still don't think Taj is the right counter for those cabinets, unless you have a slab that leans strongly grey. You need a cool-toned counter with those cabinets.

Thanks! I have taj leftover from the kitchen countertops, so just trying to be efficient with materials. here’s a mock up of the adjacent kitchen. it’s very light. I’m trying to keep the color story simple but somehow I’m making it complicated!

    "this looks better!"

^^ It's a matter of opinion, of course, but I like the original image with the off-white walls much better than this image of blue overload.
