I used it at this house, but most of it is buried, only a small sliver sticking out of the ground - not like your pic. Got it at a local landscape place. It's functional and was something DH could do himself just to tide me over until I have funds to do it up right with attractive edging. (still waiting on that to happen...)

The problem is that grass does want to jump over so I occasionally have to dig out chunks of sod from inside the bed, and due to frost heave it has come out of the ground in spots even though it has anchoring stakes below ground -- that is DH's job to pound it back in.

I'd be concerned what you show in your pic wouldn't be strong enough to hold back the weight and force of the soil behind it and plant roots pushing it outward.

The example in the OP's pic looks like Corten steel. This is the only type of metal edging I'd use for a durable yet visible bed edging. Other types are more utilitarian than aesthetically pleasing. Well strong enough to support soil weight with proper installation.

Yes I believe this is Corten steel. If I were to go this route I’d want some of the metal showing. It has a nice patina. Heaving in the winter is the only concern I read about. Edgeright is the recommended company I’ve seen mentioned online

I believe most people install metal edging flush. That way there isn't any trimming involved - the mower goes over the whole thing. If it's installed higher, I'd wonder if hand trimming would be a pain, or a strimmer would damage the patina.

Corten steel is almost always installed with a significant portion exposed, whether used as edging, retaining wall, raised beds or planters. It is too expensive to bury (there are far cheaper options if not to be seen), does not flex or heave in cold temperatures if installed properly, has an extremely appealing "rustic" aesthetic and a patina that cannot be damaged and only improves with age. It's steel. for heaven's sake....a strimmer will have zero impact!! And it lasts forever!
