Definitions matter. That is a peninsula, not an island.

I’d install the same hardwood in the kitchen

Do you use the island? If so, do you seat 4 people there at once? Use should drive your decision. I'd make it smaller, that would give you prep space for holidays when you need a lot of it, but awider opening to the kitchen.

Extending the wood flooring into the kitchen is excellent advice. It will look so much better. I’ve had wood kitchen flooring for 40 years and I would not consider anything else.
