I'm getting an Onagraceae vibe. Gaura? Willow herb? Oenothera? Any of those ring a bell?

Well....no, not really. [g] I looked them up. I've had Gaura before, but I don't think I would recognize it without flowers. I'd be surprised if that is what I bought, but it's possible. I looked at the Willow Herb. Very pretty, if that was in bloom at the nursery late last season, I can see me buying it. I don't think I would have bought an Evening Primrose. My impression of them has always been they can get away from you, so I might steer clear of that. Thank you for trying... :-) It hasn't produced any flowers. I'll have to take a closer look and see if there are any buds on it. Eventually, it will have to do something and be more recognizable, right? lol

Speaking of things that can get away, is it possible i see persicaria Lance Corporal in the lower right? Its a leaf or two with a redish chevron.

No, Marie, I took a look at photos of what plant is in the lower right corner and It is a self seeded Penstemon. I have 'Dark Towers' a little further over and it reseeds a lot when I don't deadhead it. And usually the seedlings are green and sometimes dark foliaged. The one that is there is a green one, and the reddish color is just a leaf that turned probably due to dryness. There's also a few seedlings of Honey Bee Blue Agastache. And when I zoomed in, I realized what a mess that area is. The bed didn't get the attention it usually does, this year.

I don't have anything that looks like the plant you referred to and I haven't bought it, but thank you for weighing in. :-)

Do you mean the taller one with the long, thin leaves? If so, might be a lettermani type of ironweed. ("Iron Butterfly" and the like)

Porkchop....now that sounds familiar. I think I did buy that last fall because it was an unusual looking one with a kind of irredescent color and maybe smaller? Yes, I meant the one with the long thin leaves. I'm sorry the photo is confusing because there is a Penstemon right behind it making it hard to distinguish, but I think that's the answer!

I wonder if it should have bloomed already? And that it should be taller by now? It would be it's first season in the ground. So I guess that old saying... "The first year they sleep...." might be true.

If it's an ironweed, no. Almost time, but not quite. They should be at least be starting to bud up right now, but if you started with a really small plant then maybe it won't bloom this year.

Probably not the lettermani types. Last fall I moved one that was in the ground a couple years and it popped out easily; wasn't a well-established clump, though. Different story for the other big-*ss types of ironweeds. It can be done, and I've done it, but they're big and they're heavy. Not nearly as bad as trying to move or remove zebra grass, if that gives you a reference point. But, I've only moved the big ironweeds that were in their spots a few years; I would imagine older age makes it an extremely difficult task, but I'm not sure, TBH. I will probably find out one of these years...

I was just looking it up and I definitely remember buying it last Fall. It actually blooms in the Fall, so plenty of time for it to still bloom this year. And since I bought it in a pot that was blooming at the time, I can imagine it should bloom this year too. It does seem to be a dwarf of the larger Ironweeds. Not getting more than 30" tall. A native? Pollinator attractor. I'll post a photo when it blooms.

I only asked about moving it because I was thinking about the large ones and whether they would be deep rooted and if I didn't like it where it is maybe I should quickly decide before it makes itself at home. [g]

That's an interesting guess, Jay, but, I have that Amsonia in the yard and would recognize it. And the plant and placement of it lines up with me planting something there last year. And if it was the Amsonia it would have bloomed much earlier in the season. This one hasn't bloomed yet.

I guess I will wait and see. I'll take a photo when it does bloom.
