In real life, the color looks more like oatmeal with lighter and darker neutrals in it.

That afghan / throw is really nice Annie. It’s a really thoughtful and personal gift for your GF and she will surely feel wrapped in your caring for her when she snuggles up in it this winter. My sister is also an artist with yarns. She both crochets & knits. It’s a talent & skill she inherited from our mom & which skill bypassed me. I have a knitted ”lace” shawl from my sister & I had it in my office to wear when the AC too high or heat too low. Much better than the usual ratty office sweater. It attracted lots of positive attention & I’d often be surrounded by co-workers examining the piece while it was draped over me. Many people love and appreciate pieces made with yarn.

My mom was a maker of afghans too. Everyone in the family got one. She only had one style that she did in different colors. I don't know what the name is but it looks like a zig zag.

i made and gifted several afghans after i lost my husband. friends went above and beyond during his illness and i wanted to give them something special. many still keep in touch with me 20 years later.

when gary was sick, i made him a huuuge afghan using boxes and boxes of scrap yarn i had accumulated. he was 6'4" tall so i made it extra long. he adored that thing and always took it with him to have during hospitalizations. knowing how much it meant to him, i decided to send it with him on his final journey. it was comforting for me to see him wrapped up in it.

arthritis in my hands brought my crocheting to a screeching halt years ago. i have been taking a turmeric supplement that has drastically reduced the pain in my hands and i've been thinking about trying again. now i just have to remember which shed i put all of my supplies in!

Beautiful texture! I'm 81 and have and use the afghan my grandmother made for me when I was 16. I also have another afghan she made, and several I made, both knitted and crocheted. All are wool. My son and family have no interest in inheriting them, but I have a neice that will cherish them.
