Need advice on decorating wall between hallway and Family room

There are two small walls(?) that are between the hallway and Family room. Please see the pictures, I marked them with arrows. They look so empty when entering into the home. I am thinking of adding Draperies to those walls. Not sure if it is a good idea. I am badly in need of advice. Please help.

I would consider a French door or a sliding door ,the choice is vast

I would not add curtains--unless needed for heat loss.
Is it possible to remove those small sections of wall?

I don't think I'd do curtains myself. You have a big hall it looks like, so what about painting the walls a darker color or maybe adding wallpaper to that section that's bugging you and the other full wall.....

What if you did a simple dress up of trim around the opening in both rooms, in a profile like that along the floor? It would make the opening seem more important, without making it "overly" important if you did something like curtains or painted it a different color.

And around the ceiling also it would make that whole area look so rich and it will add character. If there is a Lowes in your area, get the book with the crown moulding ideas and you will see what a difference it will make with the examples and pictures inside the book.

can you add trim to make it into a cased opening? See photo
if you search houzz photos "cased opening" you will see lots of examples.

What is needed is a nice entry carpet, a more substantial piece of furniture in your entry way with a large mirror or piece of artwork hanging over it. I would also add a nice new light fixture that will draw attention upon entering. Best wishes!
