I would bet that you could just let it sit for a few days to soak up the conditioner. Oil-based stain is going to be pretty heavy duty..not likely to be phased by the conditioner. In my opinion, if it's not thick enough to mix with the stain while you're staining it, I think you're fine. You could always do a test patch on the bottom to see though. In my experience, staining things has always felt like a sloppy endeavor that always turns out well, assuming you're mindful of the humidity and whatnot.

Thanks. Does all furniture need to be conditioned first? I bought the water based conditioner for another project...Lol I plan on using a water based whitewash stain for a hutch but that is going to be awhile and I got side tracked with the end tables hahaha. The conditioner I used is very thin so I believe I will just go ahead with your advise and stain with the oil based ebony

Not realy. Wood conditioner is used on end grain of a raised panel door for example to prevent the end grain from absorbing a lot of stain and appearing a little darder than the rest of the door. Or it can be used on pine to prevent it from absorbing a lot of stain so it will look more like an expenssive dense hardwood.

Okay. That's good info to know as well so tomorrow I will just go ahead with the oil based ebony. I'm new to the whole 'refinishing' thing but I'm quite certain my end tables are made of pine. The wood seems very soft and easy to accidentally would a notch in lol but that only adds character. Right? Hahaha thanks to both of you for the input. I've said it before and I'll say it again and again...I LOVE this website. So many wonderful and free advice and ideas ;)
