hardwood or tile in kitchen?

I'm still undecided about using hardwood flooring or tile in kitchen. I hate cleaning title, but worry about grease splatters or spills on the wood floor. I would like to hear comments from someone with wood floor in kitchen.

I have had hickory hardwood down for 5 years! 8 grand kids and a big Lab -- easiest care ever and NO problems! Wouldn't trade is for anything else. Also, wood is a lot easier to walk and stand on than tile.

I have hardwood in the kitchen, but placed a rug in the 'high traffic' area.

Thanks for comments. One problem I'm having is my cabinets will be a light brown and all the flooring I like is almost the same color, not much contrast.

I have dark walnut stained, hand scraped hardwood in kitchen & throughout home (except bathrooms), LOVE them. Kitchen cabinets are white upper and black lower, both sanded shabby/ distressed. I'm extremely pleased the way it has come together.
