The first two are too busy with the stone of the FP and they are all too colorless.

I like the first one. Your couches are a solid white/cream so I am not scared of the pattern. I think its a winner. 3rd is my next favorite. I am not fond of #2 (wavy one) as it looks a bit dated to me.

Hi Marcy. I like the wave one the best with the silver/grey tones for your living room. The wave pattern is reminiscent of water and it a nice intuitive counterpoint to the "rocky shore" of the fireplace.

Love the 1st one. 2nd is dated & 3rd would SHOW EVERYTHING from dust to hair (even human!)
1st is super neutral - & you can accent w/any pops of color your heart desires!

i'd look for an overdyed rug with more life to it than the 3 you show. the better overdyed rugs are subtle and soft but the colors are vibrant. they very much in style and they don't show everythiing the way solids patches of color do.

I think the first one will give you that rich Candice Olson from Divine Design look with the sofas. The rug I chose is Surya Archive Rug
by Surya but that is only if you don't have kids because there is so much white or off white in it. If you do have kids I think the one that looks like a starburst but is mostly gray will last longer, the one with waves I don't like at all I remember the pattern from the 90's it was everywhere including many of Bill Cosby's Sweaters!

I like LeeLee's third option ( blue w/ white borders on the ends) placed vertically in the room (pattern in front of the fireplace). I have a couple of other recommendations: 1. Paint out the speakers in the wall color. You do not want to make the speakers a focal point.
2. Hide the cord to the TV down the back side of the stone mantel. 3. Don't put a small coffee table floating between the pair of sofas. The space is too wide for it to serve any function. Try moving the sofa with its back to the window to facing the fireplace and creating an L shape with the other sofa. Place a round or square table where they meet.
Add a pair of chairs (patterned fabric in the blue or green of your pillows) in front of the window with a table between. This arrangement would be more functional for both TV watching and conversation.

Love rug in Grover 1st choice. Move your sofas in to center of room about 2ft. The 6 x9 rug. Don't put sofas on it. Add a square coffee table, in dark wood or reclaimed.

Yes, i have to pull sofas fore to the center. I am thinking of having two patterned accent chairs opposite the fireplace, in the green or grey tone.
I need to get an area rug before I know what accent chair to use.
I was thinking of a 8*11 rug with the sofas on it(just the front) because sofas are moving on the hardwood floor.

Marcy, out of your three original choices I really like the dark large-scale abstract floral. I also think your room would look great with a shag in the same color as the sofas. (Its crazy I would even think that because I usually always recommend print rugs.) I feel the subtleness of color paired with the interest of the texture would be quite sophisticated and modern. I would introduce a pop of color with your accessories. Your dried arrangement in the rust color could be a good jumping off point for your accent color.

The colors in the room appear to be tan walls, white (off white, cream?) sofas, dark brown floors, furniture and mantle. I would stay with those color(s) for the major color of the rug. Two of the rugs have a lot of cool grey tones and I don't see that color anywhere in the room except for maybe a few small patches on some of the pillows, the dark wood and tan walls are warm tones and a large amount of cool grey looks out of place only on the floor. The key is to distribute the main color and two or three accent tones throughout your space. I see a warm toned green pillow that would be a nice accent color and a warm rust tone in the flower in addition to the off white and brown. I would tend to do a more monochromatic color or subtle tones (not a lot of contrast) in the rug with a texture (nubby, shag, etc.) giving additional interest because it is harder to decorate with a pattern on the floor. If your coffee tables are a dark wood a dark brown rug would probably make the room look too dark. A tan rug would be nice (if it is lighter or the same as the wall color or a subtle mixture of tan, green, and/or rust red for example). Accent colors could be added such as wall treatments, large colored or white candles, large colored candle holders, large colored lamps and pillows with accent colors would add color and pop. Depending on how much color is added by some of the accessories a metal color like brushed nickel could be added for interest. If the accessories or some of them are too small or not enough the accent colors will not be as noticeable and can look dwarfed with the large white sofas and bold fireplace mantle. The problem I have with white or off-white on the floor is that it gets dirty and is high maintenance.

The wall color is grey. I just don't have the name of the paint off the top of my head. It is a light grey.
I was thinking of a rug between grey and green. I prefer colors that aren't too dark, but I also have kids.
I like many of the suggested area rug; but only those with soft colours. I wish I can have a white rug but I won't be able to keep up with keeping it clean.

Wow - so many great helpers! I like the second rug - it feels the most forgiving as far as wear and tear goes, the texture is great and its transitional nature unites the more modern sofas to the somewhat more traditional surrounds.

If the walls are grey it appears they are a warm grey. There are warm greys and cool greys depending on how much yellow has been added, keep this in mind when selecting a rug.

Personally, I would go with a sculptural pattern the color tone of your fireplace, but I also like colorful so a Kilim would be a good choice too. Good luck

Prefer leelee's option 3, the light green with the beige at each end. It works well with the room and does not scream out IM A RUG in your face.
