Well, I'd be tempted to leave it alone, but I think you need to provide more information! like: what room is this ? (purpose) what's your budget? can your neighbours see into this room? can you sew ? etc... it's a blank slate and you've not given any info :-)

Its a guest bedroom and no - no one can see in.. & yes sewing can be done... thanks- not over the top money but will spend some...

Throwing an idea out....what about some wooden shutters and paint them the same colour as trim? or conversely a cafe curtain (much cheaper) you can buy or make one.
