I would go with a glass backsplash. The reflected light will keep the overall look lighter. There are glass and stone mixed sheets that you might consider. I think I would also consider a larger format tile say 4X6 tile rather than the smaller glass sheets you see. They become very busy and can overwhelm the space.

The rough surface stone in your second photo is a bad option for a kitchen. You will never be able to keep it clean. Think about bubbling tomato sauce or that last mishap with the mixer.

Thank you. It's a basement bar with no stove or no cooking. It will have a granite countertop. I do like the glass but the stone gives it such a "bar" look. Thanks for your input, maybe I could find a combo of both!

What kind /color of granite countertop will you have?

You have a great space. I think the stone warms up a room. Some of the glass products seem to be very busy, IMO. I don't know if you can find them or not, but with the glass doors on the cabinets, it would be nice if the shelf supports were a dark color instead of white or chrome. They sort of jump out in the picture. Enjoy your new space when you get it finished.

Thank you everyone...After going to many granite yards, our whole idea changed and we decided to make a bold statement with our countertop. I originally wanted a white colored granite but we went for Forest Web Brown aka Rainforest Brown marble and I think we will something like Mpoulson posted or just a basic subway tile. ASV interiors, I will have the brushed nickel bar style like picture #2 that I posted. Glass Tile Store - - - as above...Forest Web Brown marble...which changes everything. Still any input would be helpful. I put a picture of my slab through my photoshop and what do you think would be a good backsplash...if any?? Thanks.

Great choice of countertop! Though with that kind of counter, i'd suggest a simpler backsplash so the kitchen won't look too busy. possibly cream colored tiles or even blue grey glass tiles
