Great picture! Consider painting the back of those bookcases the same color that's on the wall--just the back. For much more pizazz, I love putting a wallpaper on that back--really draws the eye in and makes it a modern focal point. Still another idea is to mirror the backs. That adds nice sparkle. Now to stage the shelves; remember that you can probably move those shelves around. They don't have to be exactly the same height. I'd tuck a nice, full plant up high (can be a great fake due to low light) and vary each shelf design. Right now you've got something large in the center of each shelf. Very static. Could use more books, some stacked vertically, some horizontally. Doing this is so much fun. I'm sure others will chime right in!

By the way the large item in the center of each shelf is a speaker. Very difficult to decorate around the speakers. Any ideas? Maybe books (horizontal) on either side?

The speakers don't have to be right in the center on the shelf and they don't have to be at exactly the same level on each shelf. BUT, if you do want to keep them there, that's okay--it will be your symmetry. Now don't put anything else smack dab in the center of the other shelves. Let the eye wander around. It takes some playing with!

Speakers can be the Bain of any decorator. A simple project I have used in the past is to create a box, much like a gift box, but covered with fabric that accents your decor. Before you attach the fabric to your box, cut the box open where the speaker sound comes out and the fabric will cover the hole but allow perfect sound to pass through. We used varying sizes and shapes in a room that had 7 speakers total. It was nice to disguise some. Just a thought. I really liked the mirror idea for the back of your shelves, just keep in mind the backs of items will be reflected.
