It's Richlite, a recycled paper product. You can find a local fabricator at www.richlite.com. It's the blackest black (if you're looking for black), and the finish is suede-like matte. It wears similar to soapstone. Also, larger slabs than are generally available in other materials, so in this case, was able to do in one piece.
