We just bought a house which has a combined living room/dining room. They're divided by a large doorway arch. I want to create a distinct separation with different colours for both rooms but I have no idea which colours would fit.

For the dining room I'd love something blue, green or yellow(ish) (not too dark, more pastel) to create a friendly athmosphere. The living room should be more cozy and slightly darker. Maybe something brown or dark beige? I just don't know whether the colours go together.

In the attached pic the dining room is in the front, the living room in the back.

I'd love some ideas or tips on how to make a decision.
