More photos of the entire area would help. Are you just moving in? You could start by selecting a large art piece for the wall instead of the metal piece and pull a color from that. I like a rug under the table for the warm feel (some don't cause of spills). That would be another spot to start color.

And I can see a color for the kitchen carried over into the dining room as an accent wall color.

Color doesn't have to be really "colorful" to have a big impact.

I'm not sure I would use a different color in the kitchen from the living room since they are open to each other. Where would the colors change? Where the counter starts? Where the cabinets end?

Sorry for the not so good pic...we just built the house so we are still kind of moving in. The wall actually ends a little over from that iron art piece above the dining room table. So I was considering taking another color to that corner and butting it up to a beige. I'm working on the rug this week.
