allan - wall color is Benjamin Moore Stone Hearth. other wall color we used in the room is Normandy which you cannot see in the photo above but i will attach one (from before the room was done as you will see).

sunday - i think you hit the nail on the head on WHY my interiors are so important to me. i am a stay AT HOME mom so am home ALL THE TIME. i also am a freelance writer (who works from HOME) but have put that pretty much on hold to raise kids so i think interior design has become my new creative outlet in many ways. i DO like being at home thankfully!! :-)

I like the way you hung the curtains. The orange accents/furniture really pops the room.

Judy - the art above the fireplace is a piece we commissioned years ago (I say that only because it sounds fancy!) my husband and I saw this artist's work in a stereo store in Berkeley and tracked him down and he made this "stacked" art for us in a particular size and with themes of writing, running, woodworking etc which are passions of ours. check him out at byronspicer.com. people either love or hate our art piece!!! :-)

I also love the artwork! The colors play well with your walls. (I refuse to say pop) I also like the black of the fireplace, credenza & even the tv against the walls too. I always like a black & (sort of) taupe-ish color together!

And lastly...thanks for putting the tv where it belongs...not over the fireplace like a ...piece of art...which we know it's not.

too funny about the TV over the fireplace. my husband is adamant AGAINST TVs over fireplaces partially due to the heat factor but i also agree it competes in some ways when you do that… if we ever get around to punching up the fireplace wall WOW factor - as is the master plan - the TV will be even less noticeable...

I have mentioned this to a few folks on their posts. My day job is Audio Visual Design Engineer. It's what I do, so I smile when I see others that really "get it".

Fireplace = Ambiance
TV = Entertainment.

The 2 should never vie for your attention.

The fireplace is my entertainment :-D So is the TV! I would like to separate the two if possible, but if there is no other functional way to set up my living room, then the TV just may live above the fireplace ;-)

I love the "after" picture! I love orange with the dark colors in here. Also the art looks great above the fireplace, and the TV is in the perfect spot. I'll try to set up ours like that. ( When we get the house.)
