Glass is a more contemporary choice for railing.

If you have a picture of the entire home...might help a bit more to make a decision. Glass looks great, but Dytecture is right...very contemporary. The railings you are showing are pretty straight-forward and "general." (traditional). You can go with that or even ask for a little more decorative railings.

If you have a nice view from inside through the railing, I'd pick glass. If the view isn't great, or you want a bit more privacy, use the picket railing.

there is a pretty decent view of the mountains from the deck, my gut is go with glass and i'm seeing from the comments that in general that is the recommendation. Attaching a pic of the entire house but the deck would be on the right hand side at the back so not really visible from the street. The inside of the house is quite modern and updated so am thinking glass might work well with that as long as it doesnt throw off the balance of the entire home.
