I think they look fine, and as far as lowering the rod, the problem then becomes repairing the holes in the walls that can become quite an ordeal if the house is more than a few years old. The sheetrock above my living room and bedroom window has so many repairs that it looks horrible. I don't even dare suggest to my husband that we lower them as they hang the way yours do.

It's a good start! : ) but, sorry, I agree that draperies are too short and that pillows need variety in size, texture and print. Additionally, I've just gotta say that your coffee table looks pretty bad in this picture. I think you need some "richness" in your endtable/coffetable. What about a dark trunk for endtable and a large textured ottoman? IMHO, ottoman can be most versatile pieces ever.

Painter’s caulk is easy to use to fill holes in the wall from nails and screws.

Time spent to make those panels look good is worth it.

Beautiful color for the drapes, but yes, they're too short. Are they available in a longer version? Always better to pay to hem longer ones, than to deal with short ones. Floor to ceiling almost always gives the best look. Are the lumbar-style pillows built-in headrests on the sofa? If not, I'd remove them. I think your bar niche might look good with the blue for an accent color. Add art, and a variety of interesting pillows. A glass coffee table will allow the rug to show through.

a teal throw would ground the couch, different pillows is also a good idea. The coffee table should be replaced with something soft and interesting. and yes...curtains are a bit too high or short as the case may be. I do love the teal color !!

Love the curtain colors but hung too high - curtains should at least touch the floor or be a fraction of an inch off the floor. Lowering may be easier than adding the banding? some patterned pillows and more accessories and you should be set. Great start

I love the colors together, and agree that the curtains look short, definitely need to add something on the bottom of them because the relationship of the curtain rod to the ceiling seems about right.
I think the two tables are very different and I would replace the side table with a floor lamp, maybe an arc floor lamp.

It seems that a dark wooden end table to replace the glass top table would make the weight of the room more balanced and repeat the dark cabinetry to the left of sofa. Lowering the drapery would be easier than adding a brown band, but both ideas are great. Adding a couple patterned pillows in the brown/blue would give the room more life. The coffee table seems quite stark, but noticing the white case goods on opposite wall and the white woodwork, it may tie the room together. You have created a very pleasant room!

BTW, LOVE that you have a sectional that's actually got a slender yet comfortable look. Haven't seen one like that! : )

i like the idea of a dark brown band on the bottom of those.
i would have it come up the curtain panels about 8-10" though. you don't want to make it look like you're fixing short drapes, even though that's exactly what you're doing. make it a design element by making the band of brown larger.

and i agree with people saying different pillows of various sizes. those ones look a little sad and lonely.

Drapes too short add brown band somewhere on the drapes doesn't have to be the bottom though can even be in the middle. Needs pattern pillows... loVE the colours you are going with

I agree the drapes are too shorts, it's the first things that came to my mind when I hang them. They are actually costume made overseas, I took the measurement my self and you can tell I'm not an expert :) Luckily there still is extra fabric on the lower side of the drapes. I will just have to find someone to make them longer for me. I guess it's the easiest way??

I love the colors. The brown shelves are not too bad. Personally I would leave them alone but it's a matter of personal preference there...white would be good too.

I agree that you could incorporate a print with the turquoise in the pillows rather than solid color pillows like JudyG found for you.

Here is another view of the room, we are redoing the whole wall with rocks, shelves and the fireplace of courses.

We are thinking to redo the whole wall with stones, and take off the cabinets and replace them with shelves. It will be a mix of these two pictures.

nouala, first of all I want to say you did a terrific job with your space. Yes, your rods need to be hung lower or you will want to let out the hems of the draperies. The pillows on your sofa are fine. Can you improve and add more color, pizazz and pattern...absolutely! Is it the end of it if you don't, no! I love your coffee table and the manner in which it relates to the front door. It has a very nice architectural aspect to it. The only thing I would change out is your little round glass table. I would like to see something with more of a presence. That can be many things I suspect, but I somehow believe that you will figure it out. Great job, kiddo. Don't become discouraged by negative remarks. BTW, I am a huge fan of Roche B. Your entire wall of rocks and bookcases will be absolutely stunning. Good luck gal! :)

You might want to consider a brown band along the edges of your drapes too. Maybe I'm in the minority but I love your white coffee table. I think you could add some stark white accessories to help tie it in to that side of the room - a throw on the sofa, perhaps. I agree the small end table could be replaced with something more substantial and since you are moving in the "white" direction with your room re-do, look at white tables. The white media cabinet looks great on the opposite wall. Your inspiration pictures - Love and dreams... and Olive Tree Lane will make your fireplace and your room much more contemporary and sophisticated!

If you're planning a change that major to your fireplace wall, I might wait until that's complete to replace any furnishings. That remodel will shift the feel of the room and might influence your other choices. Except for throw pillows: if you wanted to bring in a little variety/pattern by swapping some out, go for it. Don't bring in a bunch of dark brown; you seem to embrace a fresher look and that's fine. Maybe you could consider a more rustic coffee table, and use white for a side table instead?

I would rethink the stone wall idea. You will need to make sure your wall can handle the weight or it could pull the drywall away from the studs. I just read an article on that the other day! You may need extra support built into the walls!

Add trim to the curtains rather than a plain band. Get dark brown coffee and side table. Love the orange . Maybe get some various patterned orange pillows.

You definitely need some more pattern to bring colors together. Pillows or wall art would be the easiest. A great start!

You could add a brown band to lengthen the drapes, but could you just shorten them to sill length. Your room is casual and fun so maybe you don't need long more formal drapes. Accent pillows should be at least 20" square to give them a more custom look. I agree that pillows should be patterned. Love your use of color!

I think that pillow is great! It has all the right colors and is contempory. Good choice! :)

I like your white coffee table; it's fun and it works well with the audio-visual cabinet. I think you need to scatter some white accents around to move that white through the room. Like maybe an end table with a cool modern lamp and the lamp could be real stark white, then a vase or candle holders on the mantle, and something white on the bar area.

The drapes are lovely, don't do anything yet. I had the same problem and guess what after hanging for a while the touch the floor now. If not don't worry about it, put a different table and go on to something else.
There are worse things that can happen. You know what they say to many pros spoil the broth. I meant to many cooks........
