Would it be okay to put a "Porthole" mirror over a round sink?

We are building a house at the river and this is a "nautical" jack n jill bathroom and would like advice on what type of mirror to use. We think the port hole type of mirror would look good but we have a round black glass sink and not sure a round mirror would look okay with it. Otherwise, does anyone have any suggestions for a mirror, i.e. shape or finish?. Our light is an antiqued black finish and the faucets will be "antique pewter". Thanks for the suggestions. P.S. We have the granite covered in the picture which is Ubatuba (black w/gold specs).

Designed spaces always do well with 'repeat' patterns - circular sink + circular mirror. The nautical theme (dressed up I dare say) can be carried on with a circular mirror (at least the same size as the sink) that is finished in "antique" pewter (either in a metal frame or a "painted" frame that is part of the mirror). That will help tie-in the facets/hardware. the light fixture is already tied in with the black counter top.

In design, "If in doubt, repeat" (pattern, colour, style, etc). A single element can be a wow factor but TWO can be a "design" factor.

Thanks so much! Now I can complete my search for a nice "port hole" mirror for interest. Unfortunately, I am finding that "antique pewter" must be going out of style but I still love it. We have been building on this house for several years and when I first picked out my faucets (and bought them) I had no problem seeing antique pewter...that's why we had to buy "black" for the lighting and am still not that crazy about it. Thanks, again!

The porthole mirror would look great! And it would be even better if your walls were painted white (over the slats), like in Genevieve's photo.

Thanks, Genevieve, for the picture...perfect! Unfortunately, we cannot change the light and I am with you, putting it lower would be better. When we bought the light, I thought it could be pointed down but nooo and my husband by this time was tired of me looking for a light. Am afraid we have to work around it now. Thanks, again.

Thanks, Ella. Actually the boards really look better with all of this than the picture shows (at least we think). My husband and I first wiped stain on each of the boards and then put a white wash over them to give them a "driftwood type of look). Am so happy that everyone is giving the "port hole" mirror a thumbs up. Really appreciate the comments.

Love it, Genevieve. Now the question is what size. Do you think this 20" would be big enough? The measurements for this area is 44 1/4" wide x 39 1/2" tall.

they have a medium and a large ,I would go with the larger one ,try to measure the dimension on the wall and see what would be best for you .

the one above is 20" i say perfect :)

Here's what Genevieve's mirror might look like in your space.

Wow, it always amazes me what you computer savvy people can do! Now what do you really think? Maybe it would look a little better if it was higher? Thanks.

I would actually place a square mirror with a weathered white vintage style frame. I would then replace that light to a smaller light hanging from the ceiling over the sink (so facing down). With that granite bench top and weatherboard effect, you want something that screams class, not boat!

That light REALLY messes things up, I can see!

Thanks, Benjamin. Yes, I've been thinking rectangular also but would you hang it vertically or horizontally?
Horizontally. You wanna fill up that space and have the wall providing an additional frame around your framed mirror. If it was vertical, you would see too much wall on the sides and it would actually make the sink look smaller than it is!

Kevin, can you tell me how you "inserted" the mirror! What a great tool! Thanks.
