Do you think it would be dumb to put big floor length mirrors behind nightstands?

If you go look at houzz photo's, just type in mirror behind nightstand, you find every style, size, shape imaginable. It is all preference;)

I don't think it would look dumb! It would look awesome - balanced on both sides.

Can you hang the mirrors vertically over the nightstands?
A friend of mine hung a mirror over a chest. The mirror wasn't as wide as the chest so she painted a rectangle in a coordinating color than was the right size, then hung the mirror in it. Looked fabulous.

Tall mirror behind night stand...

I find it's helpful to visualize these kinds of decisions, so I've attached a Photoshop composite of the mirror and nightstand. I'm not opposed to the size issue; I think the mirror is a terrific dramatic statement on each side of the bed. But in my opinion, the nightstand doesn't go well with the mirror in terms of style and design. They both have a rustic finish, but the mirror frame is more refined in its lines and style and appears to have a polished finish or might even be metal painted to look distressed. The nightstand is VERY rustic, in style, and clunky as well. I think the shallow depth of the nightstand might be problematic as well. I'm not opposed to having a black-framed mirror with a brown nightstand, but these two pieces don't work together in my view. I've attached four options I think could be a better companion to the mirror. All are from Overstock.com and are not pricey. Good luck!

Design gene, It is hard tell from the photos but both the mirror AND the nightstand come from the same furniture company (progressive furniture) They are made from the exact same wood (reclaimed pine) and painted the exact same paint color (rub off black) I think the lighting in the manufacturer provided photos are making them look different. The nightstand comes from the Willow group (see top pic below). The Willow grouping does have a mirror but it is very plain and it is much bigger than the other mirror from the Augusta Hills group (see lower picture). I was thinking about pulling the mirror from the Augusta Hills group in because it is smaller and has rivets decorating the inside of the mirror that are also found on the upholstered bed that I am getting from the Willow group. I have seen the Willow grouping in person and can attest that it is true black (plus I have already ordered the bedroom set so now I need wall décor for behind to symmetrical nightstands) Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated)

Should I just go with the mirrors from the Willow group even though hung vertically the size of the mirror behind the dresser is 38 w x 51 h? the nightstand is only 32w x 31 h.

Ugghhhh!! I don't know WHAT to put above my nightstands then...... :(

The dresser set is distressed black, the mirror is an antiqued gold.
The photo is making the nightstand look brown, it is actually black.

I also really like the bronzed mirror, but I'm a bit concerned it might 'nudge' the horizontal window too much. Have you measured it out on the wall?

I like the idea of the smaller round mirror above the end tables. I think a rectangular mirror would be too many straight lines with the window above the bed. But, then I wouldn't put a mirror above the dresser and opt for a nice piece of art. Maybe you could use the mirror above the bathroom vanity sink?

I like a tall set of mirrors attached to the wall. Don't think there is anything not to like with the transom style window above. The look of leaner mirrors doesn't have the same appearance as attached. Also, consider 2 good sized round mirrors. They would look great too. Good luck. Please do look on Houzz, as there are many photos of what you want to do.

Stef: your idea is good, you simply have the wrong size mirror, buy a smaller one, hang it and move on. You have great vision for your space.

I would go with the same finish and shape as your first choice, it just needs to lose a few inches, just like me :)

You sound so much like me. We are building and I am trying to see if my 30" wide nightstands will look good with a 36" window above them. The window is 6" above the height of the nightstand.
