Nice house! Gray would be a nice color to paint the house. How about painting the doors in a reddish brown color to go with the gray.

We like gray but not sure how dark to go and do we give the middle section a different shade of gray or another color? Right now, it's very blah... We are also going to replace the doors with half moon cut outs to coordinate with the other windows.

How / where would you apply the colors / accents? My gut keeps telling me to break out the middle section with the doors in a different shade of the main body color but then again, I'm not sure that is architecturally right thing to do... Any other 'pop' color ideas other than red? (husband previously said no to red)

If you would give specific advise where to apply the colors, I would really appreciate it. I'm a color person by trade (graphic designer) but for some reason when it comes to my personal things, my mind goes blank! Ugh!

You might consider a chartreuse, cobalt, yellow-gold, or turquoise door. Field of house could be gray, outline windows in black, consider running a band of black across the front if there's a structural shadow band there already (I can't tell from photo). Door in the accent color.

When picking colors to establish balance, it can help to flip the photo upside down. That way your brain has something new to work on. It no longer seems like a house, more like a puzzle whose colors and weights you want to balance.

Both doors are fussy compared to the bold simplicity of the house design. If it is a choice between new doors and landscaping, I"d pick landscaping. What geographic area are you in?

Is the roof brownish gray or another blend of colors?

Here are the accent paint colors, all rolled into one:

There is a single band of vertical bricks running thru the middle of the large wall and small brick accents around each moon window and along the bottom of square windows.

The roof is a slate gray - blacks /grays.

We're in the northern part of Texas - landscaping is always on the mind especially with the large wall which faces west. There's about 2 foot of planting area between the sidewalk and the brick which makes it hard to plant anything of substance. "The Wall" has been a design dilemma from the get go - it needs something creative that isn't going to break the budget / easy to maintain...

West facing walls in Texas will get really hot. How about topping off the bed with bark mulch and landscaping on the outer side of the sidewalk instead? Texas natives would be a good choice. Or try tough annuals such as sunflowers in a range of heights.

Here is a color combination that I like but is it too much? Left and right brick sides in the dark gray/blue color and the middle entry area in the light color. Am I crazy?

I didn't realize the whole front is off white brick. Have you had it pressure washed recently? Once you paint brick, you are doomed to an expensive repaint job every few years. I'm going to back track on my ideas for paint colors.

I suggest you consider some architectural accent lighting to play up the relief. Uplighting is more dramatic than downlighting. Using three similar lights to what you have in the back might work very well along the front west wall. Depending on the front entryway structure, highlighting that would be fabulous.

Dark blue is not going to survive Texas sun. It will absorb heat, then fade and chalk off.

What a cool home! You have a lot to work with here. Apple_pie has some great ideas. I'd say a light to mid grey, black trim, the set back middle section dark teal, and a chartreuse door. Native flowers in oranges and yellows would be a nice contrast.

The house was originally dark chocolate brown - it looked like a dungeon! My husband said the same thing about the dark color. I agree but I really want it to 'pop'. I can't seem to come up with anything else - decision has to be made by Tuesday - yikes!

if the dark brown held up, a dark blue should do fine. My shed door is painted blue, gets sun all day and has held up in Virginia. Just make sure you pick a quality paint like Ben Moore. I'd stay away from anything purplish or reddish, though, as red isn't as stable in paint. And of course, consult with your paint store (go to a paint store, not general hardware store). You could also check with a couple of architects in your area. Or just drive around and see what's worked on other peoples houses.

Thanks for the entry photo. So it has already been painted. I think the light gray, black and TBD accent color would be fine. Paint some foamcore boards each of the candidate accent colors for the door and leave them by the door for a few days. The whole front entry siding could be painted as noraoncody suggested above. That'd be a real punch.

The frogs could go elsewhere if you are ready for a change. A big front welcome mat that goes across both doors, in some bright colors, would be a great touch of color, too.

LOL - Yes, frogs are history! Or at least moving to the back of the house. My kids keep moving them to the front. Once our house is looking good, I will draw the line! : )

I've been thinking all day and looking thru a ton of pictures for the millionth time. I think I may have found a combination my husband and I can both agree on - thanks to the many great suggestions!!

The brick in one of the lighter grays, mid section (wood areas) and trim in the darker Graphite gray and the door in Tequila Lime! (thanks apple_pie & noraoncody for suggesting the chartreuse!)

Thoughts? The house pictured uses 4 colors: Graphite, Gunmetal, Timber Wolf & Tequila Lime. Which mid/light gray would work best - Gunmetal or Timber Wolf? Am I applying the colors in the right areas?

I love the graphite. It's so saturated.

The house pictured is graphite on the left and gunmetal on the other sections with the two mid tone grays as trim. I really like that idea. The bricks in graphite, the middle and right section in gunmetal, and the trim in the two mid tones for your place. Very dramatic but tasteful. And the green door, perfect!

Katy Richard - I think you may have saved the day!! lol We've been going back and forth all day about the colors to no avail. Your suggestion of doing the large wall and then the mid/small wall as a section is a fabulous idea!! We hadn't thought of breaking it up that way!!
