HI -- Darcara - Holy molly ! Those lights are making it difficult for you to decide I think . The kitchen is small so keep things light . You could have dark walls behind lighter cabinets . Black walls creates magic in rooms and there isn't that much wall to do so that would look great. I think white on white for cabinets and counters would be good and it is a look that is here to stay . Don't do granite counters - do Quartz on counter and full back splash .No little 4 inch strip . Have a thin edge on the counters - more modern . Nice long chrome handles . Put in some under cabinet "task" counter lighting and see what you can do about the runway lights you have now . And take down that little boob light . Look into having the wire track lights L.E.D. on dimmers and strung round the kitchen in a square fashion.

"Black walls creates magic in rooms" is such great advice. I love the idea of black cabinets with white marble. I think contrast would be very welcome and both would set off the floor. Find a marble or granite with some nice meandering veins. If you get it done right, then you will see the lines trickle across one counter and onto the other. That will really give the kitchen a sense of unity, while adding a bit of energy to a standard shape.

I think black cabinets would be overwhelming in such a small space but do like the idea of white cabinets with a black or smoke colored backsplash with carrarra counter top change out the handles and it should look great. these tiles might be interesting.

Please no black cabinets you will regret it because you do not have a lot of natural light coming into the kitchen. Please go with white, cream, or a light gray cabinets and then pick out your countertop color. Put some stainless steel knobs on the cabinet doors.

I am assuming the last one is the "latte" color? What would you suggest for the color of the countertop and backsplash that would tie in the wood floor and the appliances. I want the end result to be very classy and have the 'wow' factor.

What if I just leave the light oak cabinets (or took them a shade darker) Any recommendations on a color countertop and backsplash that could still give it that 'wow' factor without redoing the cabinets?

Go for the black cabinets! Take withe marble coutertops and backsplash, add some under cabinet down lights, voilà!

Stepi apprec your comments and the pictures are beautiful, but because the kitchen is small and u-shaped, I agree with the above comments that it will make it too dark. I am really looking to just stain them a little darker (or leave them) but get some great ideas on a new countertop and backsplash that will give it that 'wow' factor.

Kevin Strader how did you change the colors in the photos? Did you use an app? photoshop?

@dacara, @jdevinone, There may be some apps that will do that but here's how I do it.
First I copy your picture and drop it into Powerpoint. Once I do that I take the area that I want to recolor and using the Freeform drawing tool to draw a polygon around that area. After it's drawn I pick the color and the transparency level and recolor the picture. When you're finished with that you go to Save As and name the file and save it as a JPEG instead of a presentation. After that all you have to do is download it to the Houzz post. Sound hard but it is pretty easy.

How about keeping the wood cabinets and giving a few of the upper doors some glass inserts? Use a frosted or apothecary glass if you don't want people to actually see the content. I would also pump up the hardware to something like nickel plated rods. New countertop and a colorful tile backsplash with glass tile accents will make a big impression without a big mess!

Is it possible to switch the fridge to the same side as the sink where a pantry appears to be and vice versa? Then I'd make a fresh start with a smooth ceiling and lighting around the perimeter of the work area. Could the black fridge be traded for stainless? Then I'd find a soft muted neutral colour you love to paint the cupboards (maybe from a favourite carpet or painting) - add counter and back splash a shade lighter, plus a band of sparkle with glass mosaic in complimentary colours (midway -so it's visible) With a soft monochromatic, but interesting palette you'll expand the sense of space and light: by switching the fridge to the same side as the sink the flow will not be pinched off - the work triangle will be elongated and more accessible even in a tight space

Go for 1 continuous light color color everywhere.

As home flippers, we really are always looking for great ways to invest our money into our properties and Web Don's CHC line takes the cake every time!

It is amazing how many people want to paint their kitchen cabinets! How about new doors and drawer fronts and as Ranee Randby suggested use frosted glass in the doors? Go to IKEA to see examples of these. I would not paint the cabinets black. Too dark and overwhelming.

I think that would look great.... just look for houzz pictures with the same granite type and white cabinets. As long as you a) have them professionally painted or b) make sure you do your research and get the right tools and products before a DIY job, it should look great.

We just finished a cabinet job where the customer went from cherry to black and i think it's stunning!!! Depending upon the style of house and decor it could look lovely.

Wow - some beautiful before and afters. I'm in the midst of trying to decide on what color to paint my cabinets (and backsplash) and looking for an app to change the colors on the photos but haven't been successful. I was thinking a white, but now second guessing myself. Any suggestions. I have taken the doors all off!
