We're building a small cottage in Maine this summer. I've been researching countertop materials and I'm overwhelmed. I don't care for laminate or solid surface. Concrete and stainless steel won't work.
My key criteria are: can put hot pans on it and has a casual look since it's mainly a summer home. It seems that granite is the only possibility. I was excited about the look of quartzite but I think it wasn't heat resistant. Same with quartz. Soapstone won't tolerate high heat. Neither does wood. Does that leave me only granite?
I have granite and it's very formal and a hard looking surface.
