Tough to clean if this goes behind the stove area

I like the stone.

I like the stone on first look of the 1st photo...but I think it's to busy with that granite. I would go with the glass subway tile in brick pattern with a darker grout...white will stand out too much. You want it to blend and act as an extension of the counter. you may also consider getting rid of the existing 4" backsplash of granite that is already there. It will look much like an after thought if you leave it. starting the tile from the base counter line will give you more continuity to the end look.

Thanks, everyone! I agree it's best to remove the granite against the wall. Does anyone else think the stone is too busy? What if I just used it on this portion of the wall (from counter top to about top of cabinet height) and then the glass on the rest? My husband is afraid people will be distracted by his muscular arm in the picture...
