I always prefer a larger format tile, but they can be difficult to work with. You need to check for cupping in the tiles which can cause lippage problems if you intend to install in a running bond (brick) type pattern.

I would suggest 16X16 rather than 12X12 because 12X 12 tiles are becoming obsolete. I would also suggest that you look into 12X24 size tiles due to your room being a rectangular shape. This will fit the dimensions of your laundry room. Hope this helps!
