Wood is better for allergies, resale, and appearance. :-)

Yes, but carpet for bedrooms never went away, and is returning stronger than ever. Way too many people want to place their feet on a warm soft surface first thing in the morning rather than a cold hard one. :-)

Although be aware that wood (and laminate, and tile, etc.) really can be quite noisy. I'm not a fan of wall to wall carpeting so once I can get my floors refinished the carpeting is going to go, but I'm already allowing for a small collection of rugs in the bedroom to help cut down on the noise from walking around. (Particularly the dog. Clickety click click click... At least I know where he is? :) )

That said, I'm not going with a large area rug - too many of the same cleaning problems as wall to wall in terms of realistically getting it properly clean. (I mean, I know you CAN remove a large one, but how often is that actually going to happen if there's a big bed sitting on most of it?)
