We have 5 TV's mounted on the wall. All of their boxes are in either the bedroom closets or the main wiring closet.

The box can go just about anywhere. Since this is a kitchen, I'd look at putting the box in a pantry or cabinet. You'll need to do three things. Have an outlet installed wherever the box ends up. Run the cable from the box to the TV. Pick up an infrared repeater system so that you can still control the box even if it's in a pantry behind a closed door. All things that can be done. They may require hiring an electrician or a little drywall repair, but you'll end up with a much, much nicer installation.

We placed a sideboard under our TV to hold the cable box, dvr and other stuff. If you have the room, get a sideboard.

The boxes are wired to the TV's behind the walls - but only one TV has the infrared repeater (which is only used for the DVD player in the closet). I'm not really sure how it works, but we did have to purchase "special" remotes and they were all new TV's, so maybe there is something built in them?
