What is the overall style of the rest of the house? There should be some sort of flow....

Good question. Not positive what my style is. I believe it's traditional/transitional. Currently updating room by room to get rid of brass and oak trim throughout. I want elegance yet approachable end result.

What sizes would you consider? What is your budget?

Current vanity is 49" and it's against the wall to the left. Don't want to go too small especially if it requires moving the pipes. My budget is about $800 for the vanity.

I like the look of a pedestal sink in a powder room. Unless you have a significant storage need, I think a pedestal sink adds a nice look---charm-- : )

You could get a pedestal sink for much less than the $800 you are talking about. Use "left over" money for nice faucet and a mirror… and a new light fixture.

You are used to the entire space being filled--end to end--by a vanity.

It does not have to be so tightly filled. Here is a 30 inch wide pedestal sink. That would create a 9.5 inch space between the sink and the wall and between the sink and the toilet.

Here is a photo of a pedestal in a bath---gives a feeling of generous space.

Might not be your taste. But, I thought you should consider all a pedestal, too. Chose what is best for you!

I love the furniture piece. You can poly the top or have it replaced with marble. You I'll lose some space in a couple of drawers due to plumbing.

Thanks, going to price marble, sink and faucets today. Also, checking with a furniture restorer to get suggestions. Tell me, do you think I should inquire about adding some detailed accents or is that too much?

I agree with Valvorie Dunn. It is a terrific dresser and will be gorgeous with the right marble top. I am not so certain about your hardware though as it is getting lost in the wood design now. You might consider darkening up the existing hardware (black) or changing it out to something else when you have decided on your final look with the marble. What a wonderful idea for your powder room. I can't wait to see it completed. Please post when you are finished to show us before's and after's. :)

What you are looking at (attached pictures) are not timeless statement pieces. They are decorative furniture looking pieces but timeless, they are not. Furniture pieces turned into a vanity is a trend that I believe, will disappear.
What you currently have is timeless. I recommend replacing the hardware, counter top with granite or marble, the faucet, mirror and lighting. You will have an updated bathroom that is timeless. I hope this was helpful.

V. Dunn & Denita, I believe you're right to leave it as is. Adding accents would likely cause your eye to wander instead of focusing on the wood design. Great idea on darkening the hardware! I'll check into that.

All About Interiors thanks for the suggestions. However, I'm set on changing the current builder's grade vanity! If these pieces aren't timeless can you show me some pics of what you consider timeless. I clearly see your point regarding trends but I think if done correctly this is a piece I personally would never get tired of.
