A darker cabinet color might help, but the granite is too busy unfortunately.

What can I do to soften? I don't think I can afford to tear it up.

It's a big expense to now not like and I think you can make it work. I might try a lighter rather than dark cabinet with a dark glaze. Maybe a rich honey ivory cabinet with chocolate glaze highlights (rather than all over). Pick the color from the light part of the granite and the floor. You don't want so much contrast between the cabinets and countertops.

Meridith1, you did absolutely not make a mistake! You've chosen the granite and tiles because you love them, right? Well, then go on loving them. It's much easier to adjust the colour of cabinets and wall than the other way round. Do as Kim suggested and pick the colour from both granite and tile. Keep searching for the right one, even with fabrics/paper holding against the cabinets to see how the colour matches.
Dark cabinets may be a good balance for the pattern of the granite, lighter cabinets will make the granite the highlight of your new bathroom.

The dark cabinet is the way to go with that counter top and once you put the sink in, mirror and lights up with some accessories, you will love it.

I love the granite, especially with the dark cabinets. Possibly a deeper (but still neutral) shade on the walls, too. Once you have some accessories and/or the usual bathroom counter items out, I think the room will look terrific.

The dark cabinets with help. Also, when the room is done and your towels, etc are put back it will help. We have all felt this way but it's yours...learn to love it! :)

Thats a nice marriage, it really does look great good job.. I wish I would have caught you a little earlier though, could have saved you a lot of trouble.. I'm thinking you could have left those white, gone with a simple but elegant black granite composite sink and it would have been good to go with an onyx like hardware.. Would have complimented the movement of that stone without having to darken everything up so much.. The good news is, your floors and walls were the perfect color for the contrast and transitioning needed to pull this off.. ;-) Looks great!! B-)

it's so hard to judge a space mid-way through a project. don't sweat it.....it will come together in the end. but i would consider painting the walls in a neutral color that will make the floor & shower tiles blend in first. that will allow your fab but costly new granite to take center stage. I honestly think you could go dark or light with the cabinetry and it will look great! show off your finished space!!

Truly I like the granite with your cabinets. The one detail that might make a difference is to remove the 4" backsplash and just add a small 1 inch bullnose piece instead. Option two would be to add tile backsplash up to the middle of the mirror.

Your room isn't finished so think about these small changes and add your mirror.

The first photo shows BS out of counter granite--it looks much heavier with that 4" BS

Second shows tile BS up the wall instead of 4"granite. You could stop 1/2 way up mirror or go to the ceiling.

Even though this is a kitchen you can see the white cabinets, dark granite and light tile backsplash gives a totally different look than chopping up the backsplash area with a 4" dark granite.

I think your granite is pretty. I think a dark cabinet will be so good with it. The stark white cabs are what's throwing you now. You will love this!

I love the granite but I'm a contrast type person. I would paint the cabinet the lighter shade of the granite and get dark towels/accessories to play up the darker tones of the granite. It will be lovely, don't worry, just go for it!

When granite is busy and then a busy backsplash is added, that's when rooms are in trouble; your granite compliments the tiles! Either the white or brown will be fine - it's a personal preference. If you start painting them dark (and more importantly if the paint is not applied well), you would have been better to have kept them white. You'll know very quickly your gut reaction and it's pretty easy to stop and go back to white. My opinion for what it's worth to compliment the room would be to use white or beige towels with white cupboards and a deep mocca for dark cabinets, creating a more restful appearance.

Love! Your bathroom looks great so far! It's hard to see the whole picture when it's only half done! Pick a color from the granite (light) to contrast the dark cabinets if that's what you are going with! Good choice!

Thank you all for the input. I decided to tear it up and go with Cambria quartz in Roslyn. The walls are BM bare and the cabinets are BM 1001.

Even a cream cabinet color would work!

absolutely nothing wrong with that granite... groveraxle shows how dark brown shows it off (artwork often looks a lot better with dark surround; that's why art galleries often use the idea) sometimes we get hung up on 'fashion' instead of aesthetics. Beautiful.
