Your room looks great already but the first thing a designer is going to ask for before giving advise is more pictures of the other walls.

I would like to see more color on the walls , then things would pop out. Look at darker shades in tones you wish to pull out from the painting? A darker green or beige or a burgundy?? You chose your favorite!

I would say, add more accessories! How about dark red dry flowers arrangement in the large wicker vase by the window and also maybe go for coloured rug instead of beige. It's an instant update on a budget, good luck!

I think you need to add color. Pull another color other than the light blue from the painting. Was is this room? A formal living room, sitting room....? From the looks of the pictures I get the impression that the grouping has to accommodate a foot traffic pattern. Is this why there's no coffee table?

There is a lot of foot traffic and this is kind of a nothing room/sitting room. I love the advice. What do you think for the blank wall??

I forgot to add that I'd have the rod extend at least 10" beyond the window, on each side. That way your window will look even larger.

You said you want to keep the furniture, but I think the furniture is working against you. You have three large pieces in what appears not too large of a room, so it looks a little awkward to my eye. You also call it a "nothing room" making me think it is little more than a hallway. How about repurposing the room into something that will actually be used like a home office?

Basics are there...now give it some personality. You don' t have to spend allot. A pair of neutral linen panels hanging on iron rod and rings. Even tho i say neutral, depending on the color of the walls, they needto be darker to bring some weight up high. The large leather needs balance.
Add pillows to soften and add some design and color. Velvet crewel, chenille with pattern are 2 thoughts. And be sure they are at least 20" x 20". Don't add allot of them. How about some shelves over the couch to add books, pictures or anthing of interest. Do not get small and cluttered. Ballard and Pottery barn have vice one with a lip 10" deep. Do 3.
Good place to start

Since this is a "pass through room" how about moving your figured chair so that the back is to the dining room (I think) and it would face the chair in front of the window. You could put a coffee table then and still leave a "walkway" past the stair wall. A decorative mirror on the "walkway" wall with a tall atrificial (no light) plant beside the mirror (corner side)

Also, put the 2 chairs across from the couch, each angled. Not good in front of the window. Straighten the lampshade and there are too many random pillows on the couch right now.

Draperies are a must! Get some color and pattern in them to liven up the place a bit. The chair against the stair wall seems a bit awkward if you have a lot of traffic through there. Maybe a small wall/console table? Something narrow in depth where you can put some nick nacks and picture frames of your family. The beige colors are safe, so you have a lot to play with. Now you need to add your own personality! Family photos, favorite books, and travelling souvenirs always work wonders in letting guests know what you're all about :)

Add some color in the drapes and change the area rug to something with a little more color and design. Then bring in accent pillows that play off those colors.
