I've always loved chalkboard paint on a wall for kids, if you have a spare wall.

I love it too. I have their table painted with chalk paint. I think my issue is the red sofa.

Great room. The wall color is nice. The sofa color is off in that room, but you can always throw a slip cover on. Maybe a cream color to complement the dark walls. Yes, white/cream with kids can be a disaster but if it is a washable slip cover then no worries. Lands End has some very durable ones that have survived my kids.
Also, I think it helps to make cozy spaces for kids. I like to make a reading area with a comfy chair and light. An area for watching DVD's etc... Since I can't see the rest of the room I am not sure about the space you have to work with. Also, I would use throw pillows on the sofa that match the color of the containers on the shelf. And I also like to frame the kids art for the walls.

I think if you paint the whole room ( even that little bit of ceiling ) a great blue tinted grey --- try -- shadow grey 2125 - 40 or grey timber wolf 2126 - 50 or wedgwwood grey HC -146 Then your red sofa will look great. Improve your drapes and start them from the top of the wall and you can add some blinds under.

My picture is pretty bad but I do have blinds on the windows. My drapes were a disaster. You might cannot see it but because of the walls angle I could not put the drapes all the way to the ceiling.

I absolutely agree with Lefty 47 Lynda a soft blue-grey would look wonderful and help lighten things up.

On the drapes issue -- I gave a good look at your room and saw that the edge of your window lines up with that top corner --- so I think you could put your drapes up that high. Just a thought ! No mint -- you have enough mint showing with the toys etc. You and your husband would grow tired of it real fast. Just have it in little touches like your pillows etc.

I would get your kids painting and drawing so that you can frame alot of their work. You have great wall space for a gallery of pictures. You will never regret framing this type of art work, it really is priceless and free.

I agree with Lynda Lefty 47 about the paint color. Then, I would look for a fabric that has both the paint color and sofa colors in it and cover the little ottomans under the table and the pull out bins in the cabinetry. That would be a cheap, easy fix that would pull it all together without having to replace or cover the sofas.

I think the room looks nice. I agree with the post above about mint green. It is a crisp, clean color. A kid's playroom can get so messy, quickly. I am afraid the grayish blue suggested will be too dull for a kid's playroom. Good luck!

I agree that a clean, mint green color would be nice! With such a large window, mint green will reflect the sunlight, making for a bright space! Mint green also has soothing qualities for Mom :)

Try Gray Horse 2140-50 by Benjamin Moore has soft gray/blue/sage tones and will change with the light. This would look great with the sofa color. Hope that helps. Charmean Neithart
