I try really hard not to but synthetic fibers because I stopped using dryer sheets about 10 yrs. ago. It works very well. Also you might try adding some humidity into your space it really helps.

When the little shocks start in my home, I know it's time to bring out our humidifier for the winter season.

Get a humidifier. In England, where it's damp, there is no static in the houses!

I avoid synthetic fabrics (polyester!) for everything. Also, I use a natural soap product for my laundry, along with vinegar rather than fabric softener in the wash. Since I "banned" polyester, I have no problems with static!

Don't let your children play trains and "chuff" across any polyester carpets with their shoes on.

The nylon rug I used to have in my bedroom gave me shocks - you might try looking at the materials. I also used to get shocks getting out of my car; I'm sure it was the fabric of the seat covering, so replacing/reupholstering/covering might be an answer. My clothes used to make my hair full of static, despite using a fabric softener (I use the "free & sensitive" kinds), but switching hair conditioners helped.

Add a humidifier to your furnace. Since we added one we have eliminated all static electricity from our home.

Seldom do I ever get shocked anywhere, but I live on the humid Gulf Coast. I do launder my clothing in Tide with Downy and use dryer sheets. On delicate clothing I hang or lay flat to dry, I put them in the dryer on the Air-only setting (no heat) with a dryer sheet so they will smell nice......I guess that cuts down on static too. As a child, I would get static in my very long hair when my mother brushed it, so she would spray the bristles on the hairbrush with Static Guard -- solved everything.

I don't like humidifiers because of mold issues. When my house gets dry I put a pot of water to boil for quick moisture. Then fill and set on low a large crock-pot. It can be moved to any room and doesn't tip over. I have animals so put a screen over the top to keep out their paws. I would not take it off the counter though if there are children in the house.

For hair: Hair conditioner

Clothes: Fabric softener

Furniture: Make a home made solution of a little fabric softener in water and put it in a spray bottle.

Shopping carts: static chain but more and more shopping store are now putting this little gadget. The static as I understand on shopping carts, are caused by the friction of the wheels.
