Rug help!!

I'm looking for a new rug with more pop. The first photo has my current rug and the next two show the possible contenders. Do those rugs go with my current scheme? If not, does anyone have any ideas with pics.

The two new contenders won't make much of a difference (even if larger) as they are too similar to your existing rug. Maybe you need to look for something with a bolder version of your palette like one of these (all from Wayfair.com). Good luck from Montreal!

The last three are all better choices for you. If you can afford it, buy one that will sit 1/3 of the way under your sofa and extend 10-15" past it on the sides for a more anchored look.
I think I'd prioritize replacing the vertical blinds next.

Thanks! I had considered by the rug with the flowers many times. I'm always on Wayfair and that one is a little more than want I to pay right now so I will wait until it's on sale.

Wait for the sale, if you can. the two you have up will work as well, I tend to lean towards the circular one...

I think the rugs you currently have actually do not add to the room or the colors of the furniture, but take away. You need a rug that will add a pop of color that is complimentary to all of the other colors, yet not the same as all the rest of the room either. I have a few recommendations for you, all from Hayneedle.com. I hope I've helped. ENJOY!

    I like to flower one.
I agree with the comments about the vertical blinds. That's the biggest distractor in the room. (sorry)
I agree that before addressing the print and colors in the rug, the vertical blinds have got to go and be replaced with some nice, floor length sheers or drapery. Once that distraction is out of the picture, the rug's color and pattern will be much easier to pick.

Here's your second option area rug. I actually just bought one for my sunroom. Love the print and colors!

I third the vertical blinds. bamboo curtains with metal grommets are great for the sliding door as they tend to accordion together when moved for access in and out of the door. They will not blow all over the place as a sheer tends to do. Everyone seems to have them and they also sell them lined. One Kings Lane has the rug on sale...but you can search for a knockoff at Target, West Elm or World Market for a more affordable one. https://www.onekingslane.com/product/36552/2284848/788921?f=fbx&utm_medium=display&utm_source=facebook&&utm_campaign=FBX-A2&utm_content=1803713371&utm_term=FBX%20-%20A2%20-%20NF%20-%20G&R%20-%204%20Days%20-%20new&utm_medium=display&utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=FBX-A2&utm_term=FBX+-+A2+-+NF+-+G%26R+-+4+Days+-+new&utm_content=|A2-Product-4+Days|-|FBX-A2-NF+-+G+%26+R+-+1+-+15+days+-+Product|&f=fb&nan_pid=1803713371

To keep a slippery rug in place use a silicone caulk on the back..let dry thouorghly..rug will stay in place. I use clear..

I appreciate all of your comments and help! I think I have a new contender on the rug. As far as The verticals go, they don't bother me so I'll keep them and probably add a nice scarf. I more concerned about the rug at this point, shopping I will go!
I like your current rug very much, just not the size of it. I love the rug in the second picture too.
The rug is too small for the area.
I actually pulled the rug back to where the front legs are on the rug and it seems to fit in perfectly. I just don't have the pic to show.
Be sure to put some color on those walls.
Oh, OK. Did you decide to keep the current rug? If it's under the front legs, it probably looks nice.
In know you said the blinds don't bother you but it would really soften the look of the whole room if you used curtains instead. The scarf idea has seen it's day unless you add a matching sheer to one side providing continuity. Then of course you could go a little more dramatic with the area rug under the furniture.
I like #3! But I hate to tell you this, but you need a much larger rug than you have in the Before photo. It should be anchoring all your major seating pieces in that seating area, as in the photo of your #3 choice. Your current rug is way too small.
I think you should pick something with a brighter color. If you pick something with same exact scheme as this color and the rest of your room you're just gonna end up with the same issue. What I like to do if I don't know what contrasting colors will go with my space I go to a paint selector website and it gives you colors that's go well with what you got. Maybe a fun coral or contrasting orange? Also, whatever you pick, the rug needs to be a bit bigger.
On, another option, if you're set on keeping the scheme is to find something with the beiges and the blues but with other colors in it, as well. Or something with pops of the colors you want in it but not dominating, just something to pull the room together but not so matchy. I think it is the matchiness that is drabbing things up.
Thanks for your feedback. Nancy3303, if I do the scarf I think I would put a sheer with it because I think curtains have seen their best days and are a little played out. I will consider a larger rug, but they're just so expensive.
really??? the rug???? how about adding some life to the walls? some colour, or crown moulding...pops of colour in sofa pillows or artwork....those blinds have to go...why so focused on the floor?
Melissa, I was thinking of adding orange. Can I get a rug with orange in it. I'm thinking burnt orange??
I've found some good options I think that have a good price. I'll try and post them here!
There's some option. One if you're feeling bold and want to go all orange, one in all blue that I think would look nice, one that's more traditional and one that has the blue and the beige and the orange and some other colors that might add some fun to the room.
I love the third one!!! I think that's the one!! Thanks Melissa!
Here's one with your scheme as well I like too!
    Oh yay! You're so welcome!
What about a fluffy warm light brown rug, plus better lights?

    or, if you prefer darker:

Do you have a budget?? I would go with an 8x10 and put it under the sofa more. :) Seems alot of the options your seeing are lower priced ?machine made or tufted rugs
  • 12 years ago
That's a good idea Craig. Thanks!
I'm late to this party, but I think a geometric rug with coordinating drapery panels would really liven up your room. Good luck!
    How's this one?

What do I get that rug doctornancy?
And how do you all do the pictures like that where you add in a sketch?

The plastic by the bar stools is distracting me.
This is an old photo and the plastic is no longer there. Thanks for your rug help decordizzy...
Faylala, I found the rug by googling "aqua and black geometric rug". I used software called photoshop to place it in your room. I find that the photoshopped images are really helpful. I suggest you look for rugs with more contrast if you are wanting to liven up your room.
The rug at an angle is a great idea. I have done that and it works well if you don't want to spend the money for a larger one. I personally really like the pattern and color of the existing rug, but would get rid of the blinds right away. That would really change the look of the room.
Faylala, I love the rug you selected the most :)
Which one gracey! The one that I already have?
