I would consider putting two or three puck lights above the sink and cover them with a small valance - just a piece of wood trim. Very clean look. Nothing to obstruct the window.

a fixture would get across your vintage style more than recessed. i would like to see two flush or small pendants. like the idea of clear covers. two so you have free view in the middle. not a fan of valences, even the one there. its a psychological thing, stops your eye the depth of cabinet, 12". would feel bigger without it and could hang pendants without looking squatty. with low ceiling, not opposed to flush mount.
