Other floor option

Have been working with wire-brushed finishes for too long to mention...lol
They used to be a VERY popular choice (at least on the West Coast).

We've always leaned in the direction of a light to medium texture rather than the "overkill" approach utilized by others in the past.
The benefit is obtained by subtly "brushing" out the softer wood fibers that basically represent the grain pattern in species such as oak & hickory... although oak is a prime candidate simply because it has a slightly more open grain structure.

The trick (IMO) is to remove the SOFT grain fibers without ruining the HARD grain, which is achieved by applying the right combination of speed, brushes, pressure, etc.
The result SHOULD be a nice "textured" surface that wears exceptionally well and is easy to maintain. There are different finish TYPES that can be used which range from polyurethanes to oil & wax finishes.

Let your dog walk on the wood sample. Our oak floors had little dents from a 70 lb. lab's one visit. I recommend a harder wood to try as a sample for your dog to walk on - like maple, bamboo, or brazillian cherry.

Hayley I can see you learned that LL lesson :-) Oak is a good choice for a floor with children and pets, a lower gloss will also help to hide any marks they may leave.

We have three dogs....including one 95lbs hound, but it's the little dogs who scratch our current oak floors the most. In our new house we're going with #2 ash with oil finish.

I love the first choice. What us the brand and name and color?

Thank you for the comments and advise. I'm not sure off the top of my head of the brand but I believe it is called gunstock and it is an oak.
