Let the natural wood of the ceiling and the trim be as it is. A very soft grey would work in your setting. White can be a bit stark but I wouldn't rule it out.

Many may not like this answer but consider painting the ceiling and wood trim semigloss white. The walls can be painted a super light grey to give you contrast against the white. The problem is that we cannot see what else is going in in the room.

thank you so much for the feedback. yes the images do not really do the space justice, however these additional pics of the kitchen hopefully show the beige-ness I refer to in my original post. I believe the an antique white cabinets may balance the floors, trim, coumtertops, and backsplash

You do have a lot of wood tones going on. I wonder if your cabinets are quality wood. If so, I wouldn't suggest you paint them. I have painted cabinets but they are only builder grade so it didn't bother me to have them done and I am much happier with the look. Your living room looks a fairly deep blue and is that a light blue in the dining room? If you are going to change the wall color, how about painting all the open areas in the same color? Painting the ceiling and trim in white with soft grey walls would be be most attractive. Try that first before you consider doing the cabinets. Your wood floors are lovely. Nice home!

The orange tones in the flooring and cabinetry won't work with cool whites. Have you considered the greige family? You need neutrals that will focus eyes on the view.

HI -- I told friends of ours that had somewhat the same house to just paint out all the trims and let the wood ceiling be the star . The end result was fabulous and really refreshed the house . They were thinking just like you to also do the kitchen cabinets . But after just the trims were done they decided that's all the house needed . This will work for you too !

I agree with lefty. Paint the trim, then see how it looks. I think that may be enough and you won't feel a need to paint the cabinets. In any case, I wouldn't paint that gorgeous ceiling.

I have the same type of ceiling (and trim) and even though it may not be stylish right now I still think it's beautiful! Please post pictures when you do the trim, I'd love to see what it turns out like!

I love wood and the natural, organic feel it brings to a space! I would leave the ceiling, that's for sure. You do have a lot of wood tones though, I would consider painting the cabinets the antique white, and you might find that the ceiling and trim work actually stand out and look beautiful. I think you might be overwhelmed with all of the wood. As far as the wall color, I always love gray. Check out Benjamin Moore's Jute AF-80 or Etiquette AF-50. Good Luck!
