Can you paint ceramic tile?

I have a quality white subway tile shower that the former owners put a 4" border of orange tile. The tile guy said he won't remove/replace it because he may chip the white. Can it be painted? Should I find another tile guy?

Painted horrendous tile in old bathroom. It was under indoor-outdoor carpet. Can't save grout lines, but definitely looks better. Sanded off old adhesive and glaze, used Stix, 2 coats concrete porch paint. 3 coats polyurethane.

Is there a grout joint between the top of the tile and the border? Do you have extra subway tiles in case there is chipping? I would get another opinion.

You should be able to paint your tile if you first use a good bonding primer. Stix by Inslx works well for tile. We did a test of different primers on tile and Stix held up the best. Hope this helps.

Oh, you can paint pretty much anything. Having it stick longer than a couple of months in a wet environment like a shower is another thing entirely.

You can paint tile if it's prepped properly. Stix is the best primer we have found for tile. Let the primer dry for 24hrs before applying paint.

It might be worth getting a second opinion from another tile guy.
