Great article and great comments. I would like to know what design thoughts are for transitioning between hallway/stairway with white trim into a room that I want to finish with grey baseboard, chair rail and wainscoting. How do I best transition the trim between these areas? It is an open plan with no doors into the spaces. Do I just need to make everything the same color throughout (white)? Thank you

Would it be tacky to have different base trims in different rooms of the home or should they all be the same?
