This kitchen was designed for a client who has a passion for cooking and baking, and spends a lot of time there. The original kitchen had a wall at the end of the left cabinets, separating it from an unused music room. After demoing the wall, the kitchen was expanded into this space and the dining room was moved into the new open plan kitchen. Two small spaced windows were turned into a new double window above a wide farmhouse sink, flooding the kitchen with light. Simple, modern pendants over islands, plus recessed and under cabinet lighting provide ample lighting. To achieve a clean, timeless look we paired white shaker style cabinets with a pop of the “new neutral”, blue, on two islands. The island closest to the stove and sink is the main workstation, with plenty of storage on one side and an overhang with seating (for hanging out while cooking or just eating) on the other. Thoughtfully designed features include a vertical cabinet to store sheet pans, and a mixer installed inside the cabinet that swings up when the door is opened - no lifting or bending required. The second island is also multi-use - serving as a versatile work space as well. Additional unique features include lit upper cabinets, and (one of our favorites) to the right of the range wall, under drawers, is a built-in step stool that can be pulled out to assist with reaching higher shelves. This kitchen went through a remarkable transformation to become highly functional, bright, beautiful and perfect for our client!

Although originally intended as an outdoor piece, the bench is at home in the couple's living room. Porter found the bench at High Point and adorned it with custom pillows. When presented with the overall layout of the kitchen, this dining space called out for more interest than just your standard table. We chose to make a statement with a custom three-sided seated banquette. Completed in early 2020, this family gathering space is complete with storage beneath and electrical charging stations on each end. Underneath three large window walls, our built-in banquette and custom table provide a comfortable, intimate dining nook for the family and a few guests while the stunning oversized chandelier ties in nicely with the other brass accents in the kitchen. The thin black window mullions offer a sharp, clean contrast to the crisp white walls and coordinate well with the dark banquette, sprayed to match the dark charcoal doors in the home. The finishing touch is our faux distressed leather cushions, topped with a variety of pillows in shapes and cozy fabrics. We love that this family hangs out here in every season!

We turned an old 3 season porch in to an airy, bright mudroom/sunroom. 3 generous size cubbies were tucked in to one corner. In another corner we installed cabinets for storage under window set. Rest of the space is good for play time, hang out, etc. Next spring the French Doors will lead out on to a new composite deck for entertaining. It will be a nice open concept from kitchen, through mud/sunroom and out to a large deck for entertaining.

This new modern house is located in a meadow in Lenox MA. The house is designed as a series of linked pavilions to connect the house to the nature and to provide the maximum daylight in each room. The center focus of the home is the largest pavilion containing the living/dining/kitchen, with the guest pavilion to the south and the master bedroom and screen porch pavilions to the west. While the roof line appears flat from the exterior, the roofs of each pavilion have a pronounced slope inward and to the north, a sort of funnel shape. This design allows rain water to channel via a scupper to cisterns located on the north side of the house. Love the overscale windows. And the outdoor spaces are so great.” Situated atop an old Civil War battle site, this new residence was conceived for a couple with southern values and a rock-and-roll attitude. The project consists of a house, a pool with a pool house and a renovated music studio. A marriage of modern and traditional design, this project used a combination of California redwood siding, stone and a slate roof with flat-seam lead overhangs. Intimate and well planned, there is no space wasted in this home. The execution of the detail work, such as handmade railings, metal awnings and custom windows jambs, made this project mesmerizing. Cues from the client and how they use their space helped inspire and develop the initial floor plan, making it live at a human scale but with dramatic elements. Their varying taste then inspired the theme of traditional with an edge. The lines and rhythm of the house were simplified, and then complemented with some key details that made the house a juxtaposition of styles. The wood Ultimate Casement windows were all standard sizes. However, there was a desire to make the windows have a “deep pocket” look to create a break in the facade and add a dramatic shadow line. Marvin was able to customize the jambs by extruding them to the exterior. They added a very thin exterior profile, which negated the need for exterior casing. The same detail was in the stone veneers and walls, as well as the horizontal siding walls, with no need for any modification. This resulted in a very sleek look. We re-imagined the back of the house by adding french doors with sidelights plus a transom which opens up to the exterior courtyard. The addition of a bay window provided storage for coats as there was not a great place for a coat closet on the first floor. It also created a bench seat for relaxing or putting on your shoes before heading out the door.

The primary bedroom suite in this mountain modern home is the picture of comfort and luxury. The striking wallpaper was selected to represent the textures of a rocky mountain's layers when it is split into. The earthy colors in the wallpaper--blue grays, rusts, tans and creams--make up the restful color scheme of the room. Textural bedding and upholstery fabrics add warmth and interest. The upholstered channel-back bed is flanked with woven sisal nightstands and substantial alabaster bedside lamps. On the opposite side of the room, a velvet swivel chair and oversized artwork add additional color and warmth. The home's striking windows feature remote control privacy shades to block out light for sleeping. The stone disk chandelier repeats the alabaster element in the room and adds a finishing touch of elegance to this inviting suite.

Who wouldn't want to hang out in this vibrant kitchen morning, noon, night and snack time? This rivetingly colorful kitchen never fails to wow. Appetite stimulating red cabinets feature wood knobs and pulls. There's island seating as well as a breakfast nook with a view and ample bench seating with extra storage. The custom maple countertops are polished on the sink side of the kitchen but unpolished on the kitchen island.
