For three years this Westlake Village couple lived in a house that didn't quite fit their needs. With frequent houseguests staying for weeks at a time, the family needed more space, particularly in the cramped kitchen. So began their search for a new home. Though the couple viewed several residences, they realized nothing compared to the space and location of the house they already owned. The family knew JRP by reputation from friends who were JRP clients. After consulting with our team, the couple agreed a whole-home renovation was the way to the dream home they had been searching for. Inspired by top architectural magazines, the couple had a clear vision of how their home should look and feel: a clean, open, modern space with a mix of details that played to the family's lively spirit. The highlight of this new, open floorplan home is the gorgeous kitchen perfect for hosting. The unified palette is soft and beautiful. Clean, bright surfaces underpin strong visual elements such as polished quartz countertops, brushed oak floors, and glass tiles set in a herringbone pattern. A center-island breakfast bar now sits opposite a giant picture window and a show-stopping view of the Santa Monica mountains. Upstairs, the redesigned master bath is what dreams are made of. The double vanity and freestanding tub were rearranged to maximize space while the wood tile floors and stunning rock backsplash add an elemental feel. Nature Reclaimed Project Details Designer: Columbia Cabinets Cabinetry: Brookhaven I – Frameless Cabinetry Wood: Maple Finishes: Lightly distressed matte brown with black glaze Door: Presidio Raised Countertop: Perimeter – Ceasarstone Raven; Island – Antique Brown Quartzite Awards 2014 Parade of Homes, Pinnacle Homes-Best Kitchen This was a very special project and a very special home with a magnificent open floor plan and sweeping view of Saratoga Lake. Natural stone and reclaimed wood were used to bring the beauty of the surroundings into the house and the heartwood maple of the cabinets was finished with a lightly distressed matte brown with black glaze. This spectacular kitchen/great room truly defines the casual elegance of modern family living. The project was featured in the 2014 Parade of Homes and is a design award winner.

These cabinets were refaced in glazed white. The doors were maple with a presidential miter. Crown Molding, rope trim, lovely corbels and door end panels are used throughout for a very elegant look. Undercabinet lights keep things bright while storage optimizers keep life easy. Hidden away in these cabinets are rollout drawers, a trash and recycling pullout, tray divider and spice drawer.

The kitchen has Waypoint cabinetry with Cambria Brittanicca Gold Quartz countertops. The backsplash is CTI Marlow 3x12 natural stone tile in Desert color with decorative glass accents. A Blanco granite undermount sink in Biscotti color with Voss pullout kitchen faucet.

The structural Douglas Fir post and ceiling beams set the tone along with the stain matched 2x6 pine tongue and groove ceiling –this also serves as the finished floor surface at the loft above. Dreaming a cozy feel at the kitchen/dining area a darker stain was used to visual provide a shorter ceiling height to a 9’ plate line. The knotty Alder floating shelves and wall cabinetry share their own natural finish with a chocolate glazing. The island cabinet was of painted maple with a chocolate glaze as well, this unit wanted to look like a piece of furniture that was brought into the ‘cabin’ rather than built-in, again with a value minded approach. The flooring is a pre-finished engineered ½” Oak flooring, and again with the darker shade we wanted to emotionally deliver the cozier feel for the space. Additionally, lighting is essential to a cook’s –and kitchen’s- performance. We needed there to be ample lighting but only wanted to draw attention to the pendants above the island and the dining chandelier. We opted to wash the back splash and the counter tops with hidden LED strips. We then elected to use track lighting over the cooking area with as small of heads as possible and in black to make them ‘go away’ or get lost in the sauce.
