An older house requiring an upgraded small main bathroom, including accessories. There was no redesign required, only demolition and replacement of wall panels, to stud, new drywall, tile, flooring, toilet, tub, and vanity all being placed in original locations. We did have to account for backing plates to add new wall shelves, safety hand holds, and mirror placement supports behind the wall. But the result was a finished look that made the bathroom look larger and cleaner. A place to be proud of for homeowner, guests and friends.

Preparation for the project will deal with determining the exact placement of the center line for the new appliance. This will determine where the face frames, cabinet floor, and other components will be cut. This project had the built in place cabinetry common to older homes. This required that consideration be taken to brace the cabinet floors at the points where there new end panels will be installed. As with any project, very careful planning and layout is vital. Small details not taken into account can add considerable time, expense, and frustration to account for. Here, the run of cabinets will have 3/4 end panels installed on each side of the range opening. Measurements not properly verified will leave you in a situation in which the raw end of the plywood end panel would be visible. The other challenge here is the size difference between the 36" cooktop and the standard 30" common range to replace it. Carefully remove the center stile and make clean square cuts on the rails so the removed material can be utilized when/if needed. Johnnie McCormick

Our design and planning team also took into account what the view would be from inside the house as well as outside. For example, the eight-foot-high pondless waterfall can also be seen from inside. Enveloped by oversized Fired Earth 4" x 16" Imperial Bone ceramic and glass mosaic tiling, the new zero threshold walk-in shower features a Cambria quartz bench seat with radius corner for relaxation and a Mr. Steam steamer unit with aroma therapy. Considerations of use for standing or seated placement of steam and water controls, dual delta showerheads, grab bars and accessory storage are accounted for within reach to meet individual needs. Design, selections and finishes uniformly combine an accommodation for physical limitations within a soothing timeless retreat. Use of semi-custom cabinetry and ceramic wall tile provide for the functional and aesthetic requirements while keeping with a budget for the therapeutic steamer unit. The design exceeds the homeowners' goal to create a master bath for dual use that accommodates their present and future physical needs, improved maneuverability, efficient storage and an aesthetic with custom detailing and furniture-style cabinetry to create a timeless and soothing elegance.

Like many Berlin rental apartments, the kitchen was at first empty and not used to its potential. Characterised by a narrow and angled floor plan and lofty walls which dictate the layout options. The space’s northern orientation posed a challenge, causing it to lack natural light. The aim was to create two distinct areas: the main area for cooking and a dinning area where the client can entertain a small group, eat and work. Through a thoughtful approach, we addressed the unique attributes and size of the room, ensuring that every requirement of the occupant was taken into account. The compact kitchen, spanning a mere 8 square meters, underwent a transformation that conquers spatial limitations and celebrate the individuality of Altbau apartments.
