What do you think about blue in a kitchen & blue painted cabinetry? After many years of white painted kitchens trending strong, blue offers a wonderful option of timelessness, especially here in Chicago – the heart of the Midwest. Blue is a color we accept readily in Chicago as it is a nod to the many lakes & rivers here. Blue is a color choice men tend to feel especially comfortable with, as it is a color often found in their wardrobes. And, blues tending towards the navy hue are timeless; hence the painted blue cabinetry in this Chicago bungalow’s kitchen is clean & Contemporary while being timeless – all in one remodel. This space was previously closed off with doors on two sides, it was dark and uninviting to say the least. This family of avid readers needed both a place for their book collection and to move more freely through their home.

Reminiscent of softly weathered wood, Dura Supreme’s Weathered collection of finishes looks as if it has been exposed to years of sun, wind and rain. Like an old drift fence, tumbled driftwood, or seasoned barn planks; each of Dura Supreme’s Weathered finishes portrays wood that has been exposed to the elements. Dura Supreme’s special finishing process raises the grain to expose swirls and patterns with a uniquely textured surface. The wood is then lightly distressed by hand to replicate age and wear. After staining, glaze is applied to highlight the grain and then lightly buffed on edges and around knots to reveal the stain color shown. Because each cut of wood is unique, every Weathered finish is a one-of-a-kind rendition that appears to have been aged and worn by time itself. Dura Supreme’s Weathered finish collection includes an array of colors that evoke images of driftwood, dock planks or charred campfire wood. Choose from Dura Supreme’s four different wood species, each with their own charm and character marks. Select from any of Dura Supreme’s wood door styles to create a look that’s uniquely your own. This home office was designed to act as both a serene guest room and a home office with work space for two people. Both the husband and wife work from home, so two desk spaces were a must. We were working with a somewhat small footprint, so we opted for a daybed that can pull out to become a king bed for guests. We brought in soft mint touches with rustic, industrial twists. Designed by Sara Barney’s BANDD DESIGN, who are based in Austin, Texas and serving throughout Round Rock, Lake Travis, West Lake Hills, and Tarrytown.
