A system like this isn’t complete without some “goodies,” though, so we added in (at John’s request, of course) AppleTV, a Blu-ray player, a Karaoke system and a VHS player for older videotapes. Finally we installed two Sonos audio amplifiers to deliver high-quality sound to the whole-home audio system which would come next. All of the equipment was rack-mounted and installed out of sight.

The ever increasing screen size of today’s modern sleek TV’s offer very exciting visual opportunities. When choosing an entertainment system for it, functionality should be a key ingredient. Functionality becomes the issue as soon as you start to connect the TV to the cable box, DVD player, amplifier, surround sound speakers and subwoofers…and any of the other numerous components, including computers and gaming devices. Beyond the initial hook up, there will likely be future needs for components to be upgraded or replaced. A properly designed media entertainment center can make this not only easier but also make a statement as an artful furniture addition to the living room, man Cave or bedroom.

This home evokes a sensuous St. Barth lifestyle on Lake Michigan, designed for globetrotting clients who wanted a weekend sanctuary near their primary residence in Chicago. The project brief included open plan living for entertaining, a family lounge, and bedroom suites for houseguests. The first level is a glass rectangular volume that makes the second level appear to float over the dune and offers water views through the structure. Clad in Accoya, the upper level will gray with age and blend into the landscape. These two horizontal volumes are connected by a double-height glass entry space that reveals a floating staircase. A contemporary beach aesthetic unifies the interior through an edited palette of materials, including white oak millwork, large-format porcelain tile, and a range of warm whites. Interior tile extends out to the pool terrace, uniting the spaces and amplifying the connection to the outdoors. The landscape design enhances the experience. A courtyard with sculptural Ginkgo trees offers refuge from lake breezes. On the pool terrace, custom Cor-Ten planters overflow with Russian Sage, selected for graceful foliage that sways in the breeze and offers a relaxing herbal aroma.

Glen envisioned a well-lit, spacious kitchen with ample storage and a layout designed for daily convenience. Creating an inviting and functional kitchen was the primary focus. We started by removing the small wall by the pantry area. This change improved the flow between the kitchen and living areas, making the space feel larger and more inviting while providing additional storage and allowing for symmetry around the stove. Waypoint cabinets in Painted Linen created a bright and fresh look. Storage upgrades included roll-out trays, a trash/recycling pull-out, a Lazy Susan, and a stainless steel tilt-out tray under the sink. Pantry shelves were also customized for better organization. A stunning quartz countertop from Arizona Tile’s Della Terra Quartz line in Everest was installed. Two waterfall edges and a 10-inch overhang for additional seating enhanced the island's visual appeal. For the backsplash, Glen chose Glass Mosaic Winter Morning tiles, installed in a brick lay with a 50% offset. This reflective surface helped amplify the brightness of the kitchen while complementing the overall color palette. A new Delta Lorelai undermount stainless steel workstation sink was added, along with a Moen Align matte black kitchen faucet. The garbage disposal was reinstalled, with its switch conveniently relocated under the sink for better accessibility.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, and this one is no exception. Upon entering one is immediately struck by the crisp, clean lines of the maple cabinetry. The new Bosch appliances, including a 30" induction range, French door refrigerator, wall oven, and dishwasher, are all top-of-the-line and provide the ultimate in cooking convenience. The Miami white polished quartz countertops add a touch of luxury, while the white glossy 4x4 full wall backsplash creates a clean and modern look and newly installed can lighting illuminates the room with a bright and welcoming glow. The luxury vinyl flooring, in Sonoma color, provides a warm, wood grain finish that is both durable and stylish. This exquisite flooring choice extends beyond the kitchen into the dining room, living room, office, foyer, and even the bathrooms, unifying the home with its natural, earthy tones. The stunning fireplace makeover transformed a dated space into a luxurious and inviting focal point. The once-bland brick fireplace has been given a fresh coat of off white mortar and the surrounding built-ins have been replaced with sleek, modern cabinetry. The result is a timeless and elegant design that perfectly complements the warm wood flooring and neutral wall color. New Trinsic windows above the kitchen sink and a new sliding door in the dining room not only flood the spaces with natural light but also offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The freshly painted gray walls and white ceiling further amplify the brightness, creating a serene and airy environment that invites relaxation. The plumbing fixtures, carefully selected for both style and function, include a single bowl white undermount sink paired with a Delta faucet in Arctic Stainless Steel. The sleek, pull-down faucet, along with a matching round beverage faucet, ensures that every aspect of this kitchen is as practical as it is beautiful.

We just recently re-worked this room. The screen at 123" diagonal did not change. Nor did the amplifiers or speakers (they still sounded great 10 years later) we did however upgrade the projector and all the switching. We also updated all the Lighting Control and the Control system. It all runs off I-Pad's now.
