The open grid in the center of this cedar gate creates an excellent focal point that draws the eye past the evergreen magnolias and arborvitaes along the side yard of this contemporary house located in Newcastle, WA

The arbor created by two trained arborvitae presents a unique and organic focal point. The cool pinks and variety of greens through the swooping backyard space are offset by the red-leafed splashes of trees and shrubs in the background. The rich green lawn creates depth of space between rounded and carefully proportioned bed lines.

After moving into a mid-century ranch home on Spokane's South Hill, these homeowners gave the tired landscape a dramatic makeover. The aging asphalt driveway was replaced by precast concrete pavers that coordinate with a new walkway of sandwashed concrete pads. A pared-down front lawn reduces the overall water use of the landscape, while sculptural boulders add character. A small flagstone patio creates a spot to enjoy the outdoors in the courtyard-like area between the house and the towering ponderosa pines. The backyard received a similar update, with a new garden area, water feature, and paver patio anchoring the updated space.

Landscape by Stonepocket located in Minnetonka, Minnesota Creating a elegant landscape to blend with a home with such character and charm was a challenge in controlled resistant. Did not want the landscape to overwhelm the home, nor did I want a typical landscape for this style that usually involves a box hedge. Utilizing light in the front to create a perennial garden give the home a sense of place. Keep the planting mostly to whites and greens in the back unifies the space.

Enjoy the gardens in the evening with night lighting.
Low voltage lighting illuminates Hostas, Astilbe, Arborvitae, Hydrangea, Daisies in the gardens. The irrigation system was customized for sod and garden areas. Multiple drip zones allow for the right amount of water for sunny vs. shady garden areas.
The homeowners carried each boulder to the back yard for edging. It was re-used along the renovated backyard perennial gardens.

This magnificent home's garden extends beautifully into the front yard. Landscaping ideas such as carefully manicured boxwood hedges, red decomposed granite pathways and surfaces, and bluestone slabs are carried through to the formal entry for a consistently elegant look.
The geometric lines and the proportions determined in the expansive rear and side gardens are established in front yard landscaping, setting the tone from the moment visitors approach the home.
