The owners of this 1956 ranch home in Atlanta partnered with Copper Sky Design + Remodel to modernize the space while enhancing its mid-century character. The standout feature of the project is the kitchen, where a custom curved wood tambour island adds a striking retro element. This open-concept space is warmed by wood ceiling beams and tongue-and-groove planks, creating a blend of mid-century charm and modern functionality. The adjacent breakfast nook offers a cozy spot for morning coffee, while geometric tile patterns and asymmetrical designs throughout the kitchen honor the home's original era. The remodel included reconfiguring the floor plan to add practical spaces like a laundry room, jack-and-jill bathroom, and pantry. The primary bathroom was updated with retro-inspired hexagon tiles, tying the room's design into the home's mid-century aesthetic. In the entryway, a vibrant front door and modern tile work, paired with clerestory windows, create a bright and welcoming atmosphere. On the exterior, new wood-look garage doors and vintage breeze blocks enhance the home's curb appeal, while a fresh coat of paint ties everything together. These thoughtful updates to both the interior and exterior reflect a harmonious balance between mid-century nostalgia and modern living.

This oceanside residence in coastal Rhode Island blends relaxed Southern California ease with classic New England charm. A full renovation removed interior walls and introduced expansive sliding doors that open to the patio, creating an indoor outdoor living experience. The outdoor area features a tiered swimming pool, a spacious lounge and sweeping ocean views. The modern kitchen includes a two tiered island, woven metal inserts, slab stone backsplash, contemporary lighting and a pass-through window that connects to the outdoor kitchen. The primary bathroom offers unobstructed ocean views from the shower and bathtub, along with a dual vanity and stone wrapped walls that reinforce a sense of luxury. Throughout the home, a cream and neutral materials palette brings comfort and personality.

To balance this asymmetrical space, I designed two unified but distinct sleeping and sitting areas in the master bedroom. My goal was to create a soothing, comfortable private space conducive to starting or ending the day. Photo by Brian Gassel

We wanted to give our client a masculine living room that emphasized the modern, clean lines of the architecture and also maximized space for entertaining. With a custom built-in, we were able to define with living and dining areas, provide ample storage, and set the stage for entertaining with wine + glass storage. Comfort was also key, so we selected cozy textures and warm woods all balanced with the large scale art pieces.

This kitchen is nothing short of bold sophistication overflowing with playful elegance from gold accents to the glistening crystal chandelier above the island. We took advantage of the large window above the 7’ galley workstation to bring in a great deal of natural light and a beautiful view of the backyard. Between the warm tones of light flooring and the light whites and blues of the cabinetry, the kitchen is well-balanced with a bright and airy atmosphere. In a kitchen full of light and symmetrical elements, on the end of the island we incorporated an asymmetrical focal point finished in a dark slate. This four drawer piece is wrapped in safari brasilica wood that purposefully carries the warmth of the floor up and around the end piece to ground the space further. The wow factor of this kitchen are the geometric glossy gold tiles of the hood creating a glamorous accent against a marble backsplash above the cooktop. This kitchen is not only classically striking but also highly functional. The versatile wall, opposite of the galley workstation, includes an integrated refrigerator, freezer, steam oven, convection oven, two appliance garages, and tall cabinetry for pantry items. The kitchen’s layout of appliances creates a fluid circular flow in the kitchen. Across from the kitchen stands a slate gray wine hutch incorporated into the wall. The doors and drawers have a gilded diamond mesh in the center panels. This mesh ties in the golden accents around the kitchens décor and allows you to have a peek inside the hutch when the interior lights are on for a soft glow creating a beautiful transition into the living room. The bathroom was redesigned to improve flow and add functional storage with a modern aesthetic. Natural walnut cabinetry brings warmth balanced by the subtle movement in the warm gray floor and wall tiles and the white quartz counters and shower surround. We created half walls framing the shower topped with quartz and glass treated for easy maintenance. The angled wall and extra square footage in the water closet were eliminated for a larger vanity. Floating vanities make the space feel larger and fit the modern aesthetic. The tall pullout storage at her vanity is one-sided to prevent items falling out the back and features shelves with acrylic sides for full product visibility. We removed the tub deck and bump-out walls with inset shelves for improved flow and wall space for towels. Now the freestanding tub anchors the middle of the room while allowing easy access to the windows that were blocked by the previous built-in.

This project has been an amazing transformation. The photos simply do not do it justice. The 75 inch television and gas ribbon fireplace are placed on a background of oyster shell tile with a white grout and framed with a cantilevered top, floating shelves, and a floating mantle made from african Sapele. LED lighting sets off the tile, floating shelves and art niche, and can be dimmed to set the mood. A modern, high gloss floating media cabinet provides storage for components and has two drawers to hold all those small items.

A lovely peaceful space for friends and family to gather. The flat screen TV is mounted above the fireplace and beside it is placed asymmetrically a built- in bookcase. The built in bookcase on the left balances the dramatic architectural element of the 2nd floor railing above. A large circular pendant light fixture adds charm and character to the room. This coastal kitchen uses a combination of River Run Cabinetry's Dalton Sable on the bottom with Mt. Vernon Snow on top. The counter tops are a white quartz accented beautifully with a blue glass tile back splash. To keep the back splash clear of obstructions, we used Angled Power Strips to fit up, underneath, the wall cabinets. Greg Versen

In this Chenal home you will immediately notice the steeply pitched gable roof of Tudor style homes. It doesn’t have any half-timbering and instead features a prominent front entryway with small stone masonry. This gives the home fantastic curb appeal as well as makes it feel so inviting. This same stone was used in the chimney which helps balance the front of the home. The bricks, often used in American Tudor homes, have slight color variations to give it a more rustic, cottage-like look. On first glance you would think that this is a slate roof, however, this is a Grand Manor roof by Certainteed. This roof is the perfect accent to this home and gives it a strong Tudor look and feel.

This incredible master suite is custom everywhere you look. Debra specified -Espresso wood floors with warm/cool grey rugs. an Italian Minotti Yang bed against a 3-D concrete porcelain tile headwall capped in stone. Ochre lights selected by the owner from TOWN are the night stand jewel reading lights along with a single wave crystal drop chandelier above the headwall. You experience the natural stone on the columns and an open curving wood ceiling and exposed stained beams. Debra designed custom netted gray drapes to create four corners to balance an asymmetrical room. In addition windows are covered with gorgeous soft gray sheer roll shades with separate black out shades all Lutron motorized. The room has a featured concrete style porcelain tile feature wall and concrete desk. A Ligne Roset settee to top it off. The room makes an impact to anyone who has not seen it. It takes them aback the moment they walk in. Comments range from 'I'm speechless' to 'wow' to ' incredible'.

The clients, a young professional couple had lived with this bathroom in their townhome for 6 years. They finally could not take it any longer. The designer was tasked with turning this ugly duckling into a beautiful swan without relocating walls, doors, fittings, or fixtures in this principal bathroom. The client wish list included, better storage, improved lighting, replacing the tub with a shower, and creating a sparkling personality for this uninspired space using any color way except white. The designer began the transformation with the wall tile. Large format rectangular tiles were installed floor to ceiling on the vanity wall and continued behind the toilet and into the shower. The soft variation in tile pattern is very soothing and added to the Zen feeling of the room. One partner is an avid gardener and wanted to bring natural colors into the space. The same tile is used on the floor in a matte finish for slip resistance and in a 2” mosaic of the same tile is used on the shower floor. A lighted tile recess was created across the entire back wall of the shower beautifully illuminating the wall. Recycled glass tiles used in the niche represent the color and shape of leaves. A single glass panel was used in place of a traditional shower door. Continuing the serene colorway of the bath, natural rift cut white oak was chosen for the vanity and the floating shelves above the toilet. A white quartz for the countertop, has a small reflective pattern like the polished chrome of the fittings and hardware. Natural curved shapes are repeated in the arch of the faucet, the hardware, the front of the toilet and shower column. The rectangular shape of the tile is repeated in the drawer fronts of the cabinets, the sink, the medicine cabinet, and the floating shelves. The shower column was selected to maintain the simple lines of the fittings while providing a temperature, pressure balance shower experience with a multi-function main shower head and handheld head. The dual flush toilet and low flow shower are a water saving consideration. The floating shelves provide decorative and functional storage. The asymmetric design of the medicine cabinet allows for a full view in the mirror with the added function of a tri view mirror when open. Built in LED lighting is controllable from 2500K to 4000K. The interior of the medicine cabinet is also mirrored and electrified to keep the countertop clear of necessities. Additional lighting is provided with recessed LED fixtures for the vanity area as well as in the shower. A motion sensor light installed under the vanity illuminates the room with a soft glow at night. The transformation is now complete. No longer an ugly duckling and source of unhappiness, the new bathroom provides a much-needed respite from the couples’ busy lives. It has created a retreat to recharge and replenish, two very important components of wellness.
