We choose to highlight this project because even though it is a more traditional design style its light neutral color palette represents the beach lifestyle of the south bay. Our relationship with this family started when they attended one of our complimentary educational seminars to learn more about the design / build approach to remodeling. They had been working with an architect and were having trouble getting their vision to translate to the plans. They were looking to add on to their south Redondo home in a manner that would allow for seamless transition between their indoor and outdoor space. Design / Build ended up to be the perfect solution to their remodeling need. Our homeowners wanted something that felt light and warm and they were looking to open up their floor plan. We wanted to design around the existing beautiful hand painted cove molding but still give the home a completely new look. We started with the accordion doors, allowing their yard to be a picturesque backdrop. Living by the beach, the elements are harder on exterior surfaces. So we used a composite decking material which gives you the feel of natural wood without the maintenance.

In addition to designing and building all of the outdoor and landscape amenities, Southern Landscape performed all of the stonework on this Texas Ranch House. The front of the home features extensive wrap-around porches with flagstone flooring and customer rock and iron railing. The stone staircase leads to a lower patio and stone wine cellar and grotto, with the attendant planters and retaining walls transitioning the yard to the front of the home. Planters outside the wine cellar provide protection from the summer sun while protecting the native live oaks around the home

The homeowners wanted a space that was elegant, warm and clean – an accurate representation of their tastes and style; a place to host Sunday barbecues. The island countertop is natural quartz called Corteccia Leather Slab. A lively cream and blue green quartzite with striking linear striation, Corteccia slabs from Brazil have a special leather finish. Similar to honing, leathering a stone closes the pores, making it much less susceptible to staining and allowing for better performance. The leathered finish presents a unique texture while retaining the stone’s natural color. Since the island was such a rock star we were challenged to find its perfect understated compliment for the perimeter countertops. We selected a polished slab of Madre Perla; a classic natural quartzite. Not only are the colors complimentary but the leather and polished textures play off each other nicely. The rest of the kitchen design fell into place from there.

Nestled near the rear of a beautiful oak grove in Libbey Park, Libbey Bowl has been described by artists and audience members alike as being an almost enchanted venue. The seamless blend of its natural surroundings with the modern production amenities of this facility makes the experience of attending an event in Libbey Bowl a magical experience. With a fixed seating capacity of 973, every seat has an excellent view of the stage. In addition to the fixed seating, there is also a beautiful lawn area overlooking the bowl that can accommodate between 200-300 audience members lounging on their picnic blankets. The Bowl hosts the renowned Ojai Music Festival each June, as well as a live commercial concert series, a storytelling festival, and a wide range of free community events, films, and talks. From walls that were originally faux painted in orange and sound-buffing foam cushions to a modern and cozy environment, every detail has been carefully attended to. The walls and doors have received a fresh coat of paint and the broken closet shelves have been faithfully repaired while also replacing track lighting with an up-to-date lighted ceiling fan. To add to the atmosphere of relaxation and comfort, an African-inspired desk and velvet loveseat welcome those recordings. Flanking on both sides of the desk are wooden and metal bookcases complete with a framed art piece, lighted by way of a picture lamp. The round tribal pattern area rug is perfectly offset by the yellow canvas drapery hung up in the room as well as a bar cart suitable for making libations throughout long recording sessions. All these details come together to create a lovely atmosphere perfect for relaxing during podcast recordings.
